Salfordville, PA – Fred Rahmer is going out on top. For four decades, the National Sprint Car Hall of Famer has been a man amongst men in Central PA, and 2013 is turning into quite the swan song for him. Over Labor Day weekend, Rahmer took two big steps toward making sure his retirement season will be as memorable as any of the great years in his career with his 6th feature win of the year coming Friday night at Williams Grove and securing the points title at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday.
“The idea was to go out on top, and I think we’re showing with the season we’ve had, that we’re as good as anybody any given night” said Fred after Saturday. Driving the Rob Sell owned, Don Ott powered #20s Triple X, Rahmer picked up a victory Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway in classic Rahmer fashion. Fred took the lead from Donnie Kreitz on a lap three restart and followed it up with a tactical masterpiece, changing lines around the track and through traffic. Towards the late stages of the race, Rahmer sensed Alan Krimes moving through the pack to challenge him and altered his line again, adjusting from high to low on the entrance to turn three and in the process, slamming the door shut to any challenge to his lead. “We’ve had a fantastic car all year, and Rob (Sell) has done a great job providing my boys and I with anything we need. Moon (Byers) wrenches the car at the track, and this Triple X has been easy to adjust…just a little weight moved around here or there, and it’s gone anywhere we need it to” said Rahmer. On Saturday, Rahmer only needed to take a green flag in order to secure the Lincoln Speedway track title. It was the first title for Sell Racing and an astounding 34th track/series title for Fred.
Up next for Rahmer and Sell Racing is the Williams Grove and Central PA championships, which Fred owns a commanding lead in both series. Following that will be the National Open at Williams Grove, the one race Rahmer has yet to win. “We’ve got a brand new Triple X coming that we’re going to build up for the Grove Title and National Open…that would be quite the feather in our cap to take the Open in my final year, and we’re going to do our very best to exit on top”.
Fred Rahmer and Sell Racing would like to thank JM Bullion, Tru Line Contractors, Art’s Radiator, Don Ott Racing Engines and Triple X, as well as many others. Follow the teams late season run at www.fredrahmer.com .
