I find it simply hard to believe that no one has addressed this subject yet.  Everyone wants to talk about Donny's crash and Tony's crash but why isn't the issue of seat-belts coming un-hooked being addressed?  Brian Brown supposedly had his come un-done at Eldora earlier this year and Shane Stewart had it happen at the Knoxville Nationals this year yet not a word has been mentioned about this.  These are 2 off the top of my head but I know it has happend much more than this.  Is it really happening or is it a "cop out" and a sure fire way to get your spot back?  Everyone is worried about torque tubes and torsion stops but what is going to happen when someone crashes and their seat belts have come un-done?  It's gonna be bad.  But this topic has not been discussed anywhere that I am aware of.  Thoughts?

Could it be that arm restraints are opening  belts?  I switched brandfs of seat belts  in my car cause I saw it as a real possibility. Not saying it is what is happening  but   I wouldn't  rulle it out either. AJ Almandinger had his come undone   during the indy 500...

Finally livin the dirt dream.

some manufacturers have a velcro strip on the end of the buckle to keep arm restraints from getting under the latch and unbuckling the belts, if guys arent running those then they run the risk of them coming un done, there may be another issue that im not seeing, but the velcro reduces the chances of them coming undone on accident and ton

Style of belts with no velcro strip, allowing them to come un done easier http://image.usedottawa.com/photos/02/52/24288352_614.jpg

Unless I see video coverage that they were latched properly and then malfunctioned...this isn't an issue.  Neither is torsion stops.  Next week 2 guys may be injured because the Right Rear wheels came off..............i bet you guys will blame the nut manufacturers 1st!????

What you mean is you don't personally care cause it doesn't affect you. If you we driving down the road in your personal vehicle and your front tire fell off and the car rolled and you or someone in your family was hurt or killed I'll guarantee you and your insurance co. would be looking into why it happened. Was it the lug nuts, the stud, the wheel or maybe the last guy to put the tire on didn't properly tighten it? I personally don't have any skin in this game either, but I do find it interesting that this RF Stop thing has occurred the amount of times it has lately and see why people are asking questions. As far as Strokerrace bringing up the seatbelt thing, well maybe theres something there but I haven't seen it actually cause injury to anyone and thats a pretty easy thing for the driver to know if they're having a problem with it and I would guess if they know their seatbelt is coming off while their racing, they'll fix that pretty quickly.

I must have too much time on my hands, as I feel the need to reply to your post. I don't have a comment about seat belt latches, as I double check possible arm restraint snagging myself. But claiming the torsion stops isn't an issue, thats naive.

It's not that I personally am looking to "blame" manufactures. In a perfect world, drivers/owners/teams would be informed of said issues through an email, lol. But the reality is to catch these issues you have to know someone that knows someone.

I don't blame a certain rearend manufacturer for a bad treating process to their ring/pinion gear a few yrs back, that resulted in a rash of failures. I still use their brand. I understand shit happens. I'm just glad the local that freshens our rear ends was aware of this said issue and saved me from running circles trying to figure out WHY it happened.

I don't blame a certain TB manufacturer for a batch of bars that was made from a different material than they ordered. Resulting in some weird failures. But I was glad that my local parts shop had the knowledge and gave me a call telling me to throw them buggers into a field. No, I'm not using their brand anymore. Yes, I'm a loyal purchaser to this parts peddler tho.

I don't blame a certain Ty bolt manufacturer for using a lower grade material that resulted in some not so pleasant results. They corrected the issue, and I use many products that they make. But I'm glad I knew someone that worked there, he gave me a heads up, which very well may have saved me from wadding my chitbox up.

I could list some more issues but my coffee is needing a refill, so long post made short... This forum is one of the places I check when doing my weekly homework routine looking for possible issues that can effect my team. In a perfect world, we would be informed asap of bad runs/failures/or instalation errors. This torsion stop issue is not a blame game for me, just a need to know why. In a recent post I called the retainers a band-aid, I was wrong. Its insurance, and I will be purchasing a set. see ya'll at the track,  johnny fahl
