Wouldn't expect a big car count at all. There are no 410 cars running around Texas to support this. It will be the WoO regulars plus some ASCS guys that can come up with 410 engines. The last WoO show I remember going to at the Bowl only had 18 cars. Of course that was many years ago. It will still be great to see the 410 cars on that track again.

There were 21 cars at El Paso earlier this season, which is quite a bit further away from the winged 410 scene. My guess will be 26+ cars. Unless there is a increased purse...Then it's anyone's guess.

I believe.... this will be in tando with a return to the Lone Star Speedway and some other tracks in the state and area... So the cars will come just due to the fact it will be a southern swing style of a week or 2

Another key note to this... "SPEED" For instance at the Knoxville Nationals the fastest average mph was 118... Our Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Cars average 119 to 122mph at Devil's Bowl. Which places them around 130 to 140 on corner entry, since turns one and two are pretty tight... Now we add around 200 hp, the best equipment and drivers in the business. I would love to see what the radar gun reads April 18th - 19th, 2014!

My last Spring Nationals @ Devils Bowl with the WoO (2000?) it was cool and damp. The cars were so fast going into turn 1 that you couldn't read the graphis on the cars as they went by.....Seriously!

I'm not altogether impressed with your comparison though. Devils Bowl is definetly a fast track, I wouldn't take that away from it. Throwing math figures out there only matters if you allot for the fact that the Bowl is significantly smaller than Knoxville. Knoxville is a true half around the inside groove, which by the way noone runs. It's 5/8 around the wall there, and you do see guys running that way occasionally. The Bowl is definetly not a true half.
All that said, I love the Bowl. But I have to say honestly that Knoxville blows the Bowl away in pretty much every category.

Devils Bowl is .500 around the wall and Knoxville is .550 around the wall, so the actual size difference is neglegible. I have seen the cars go by so fast at Devils Bowl at one of the Spring races that you couldn't read the lettering on the cars.....
Pluses for Knoxville:
- Paved pits
- Lighting
- Seating
- Usually a good surface
Pluses for Devils Bowl:
- High banked
- Usually good surface
- Best track food around
- Parking
- Better market
I've seen a LOT of races at both tracks. Knoxville one of my top 5 favorite tracks.....Devils Bowl? Top 3...

FOR THE RECORD!!! The title of this post is incorrect! We will not be having the WoO at our Winter Nationals! The date in April 18th-19th, 2014! There is a name in the process...

Sorry to hear ya got bad eyes Hawker... J/K My sources say Knoxville is .51 and the Bowl is .44 in length. I disagree that the difference is negligible, it's a little over 300 feet! That's the length of a whole football field. Even if we use your numbers for the length, that's still nearly 250 feet. As far as the Bowl being in a better market, I would probably re-word that to "bigger population base". Dallas area isn't that great of a market or our tracks would be doing much better than anything in Iowa.
I pretty much agree with the rest of it though. I like the Knoxville experience a little better, but I gotta drive 700 miles for it. I'm glad the Bowl is still around and I've got such a great place 40 minutes from my house. My main point is that Knoxville is really a different animal and comparing them makes little sense.

My measurements were made with Google Earth, which is extremely accurate. Devils Bowl keeps plugging along year after year without a watershed money boost like Knoxville has once a year. With out the nationals, Knoxville would be a 360 track with 4 support classes, just like every other track in the "real world".

Using Google Earth Meaurements for comparison
Knoxville
.49 miles at the inside burm (2,600 feet)
.57 miles at the wall (3,000 feet)
.51 miles at normal qualifying line just off the burm (2,700 feet)
.55 miles at normal cushion about a car width from wall (2,900 feet)
track record 14.407 sec. (Brooke Tatnell - 2006) = 187.41 ft/second = 127.78 mph
Typical 410 Quick Time approx 15.1 seconds = 178 ft/second = 122 mph
Eldora
.39 miles at the inside wall (2,050 feet)
.48 miles at the wall (2,520 feet)
.42 miles at the normal qualifying line about 1/3 up track (2,250 feet)
.47 miles at the normal cushion, if you can call banging the right rear off the wall a cushion (2,450 feet)
track record 12.707 sec. (Craig Dollansky - 2002) = 177.07 ft/second = 120.73 mph
typical 410 quick time approx 13.1 seconds = 171 ft/second = 117 mph
Devils Bowl
.40 miles at the inside burm (2,115 feet)
.50 miles at the outside wall/hillcrest (2,625 feet)
.43 miles at the normal qualifying line about half way up racing groove (2,275 feet)
.46 miles at the normal cushion, about 2/3 way up track (2,375 feet)
track record 13.366 sec. (Joey Saldana - 1999) = 170.21 ft/second = 116.05 mph
no data for a typical 410 qual time.

Doesn't appear WoO have been to Devils Bowl since 2002 or 2003. Quick time then was 13.8 seconds according to results I found. So you could assume a WoO visit in 2014 would shatter the track record. But even if they take a full second off the mark that would still = 184 ft/second = 125 mph. Would be faster than Eldora, but still not as fast as Knoxville.

Joey Saldana won the last WoO race at Devil's Bowl on March 16, 2002. The race scheduled for October 2002 was rained out.
