As our 2013 racing seasons start to wind down, I thought it would be fun to look back on our seasons and reflect a little. I know the California guys still have the Outlaws coming in, so there is still good racing left yet! But just for fun, I ask you, in regards to your racing season so far .... with my answers included as an example:
Overall grade: B
Races attended to date: 12
Tracks attended: 5 (BMI Indoor Kart Track, Eldora, Lawrenceburg, Waynesfield, and Shadybowl)
Best race: USAC sprint car opener at Lawrenceburg
Still looking forward to: World 100, 4 Crown Nationals, UMP Nationals (Eldora), and end-of Sept race at Waynesfield, OH

I got done with my first year of college on April 26th and high-tailed it straight to the Grove that night. Today is August 23rd. I have hit 43 410 sprint car shows in that time period.
13 different tracks in that time frame: Williams Grove, Lincoln, Port Royal, Susquehanna, Hagerstown, Grandview, Path Valley, Attica, Waynesfield, Wayne County, Eldora, Lernerville and Knoxville.
7 races that I was going to got rained out: Williams Grove (5), Lincoln, and Sharon. Sharon would have been my 14th different track this track.
I'm going to Williams Grove and Lincoln this weekend before heading back to school Sunday and starting my semester Monday. I'm definitely coming back for the Williams Grove National Open and depending on what the Krimes team does I may head to Fremont, Ohio for the 2 day All-Star show in the middle of September.
Williams Grove is 2 hours (1 way) from my house. Lincoln is 90 minutes (1 way) away. Longest road trip was Maryland to Attica, Ohio for the start of Ohio Speedweek. Hagerstown is my only track under an hour and they run 1 410 race a year.
Safe to say, I've logged some miles this summer. Wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

For the past 10 years I have been a 50-60+ races a year guy...2-3 (or more) nights a week was the norm....However...This year I cut that back a bit..Maybe 20 total shows so far this year...Didn't get the itch the get out to the Grove weekly as in years past..I have been to 3 Grove shows this season. I still made the trek to many 410 shows around PA/Ohio as in years past.
Highlights -
#1 - USAC Eastern Storm - This series gets better every year. Worth a week of vacation
#2 - Path Valley - Next years show will only be better...I hope the USAC show happens next year
#3 - Roaring Knob - Awesome show/Awesome facility - I'll make the 3hr drive again next year
Happy to see -
Port Royal keeps improving - what a turn around from 3 years ago.
Susquehanna 410 Shows - I like watching Sprint cars here...The facilities need updated to say the least..
Lincoln Speedway - The place is racy...Just not my place of choice...
Grandview - Awesome - Wingless/Winged/ARDC/Modifieds - They all put on a good show there.
Upcoming -
8/30-9/1 - Attica & Wayne County - I can't go a year without getting to Attica...I'm jealous of the people that live near that place.
9/13 & 9/14 - Fremont - Another track I can't go a year without seeing.
Williams Grove National Open - I'll be sure to make it to the parking lot and hope to make it in this year...
Grade - A++ - I went when I wanted, where I wanted and have a good plan for the rest of the season!!!

F for me just simply because I have not gone to nearly as many races as I have planned simply because things kept popping up that prevented me from going. The racing I have seen though has been great though.
Been to all of the Outlaw shows at Eldora Kokomo and Lima, All Star at Attica, and an OVSCA race at Skyline.
Best race probably hands down was Kokomo but all of them have been great shows
Still looking forward to 4crown at Eldora, Outlaws at Fremont, and the sprintacular at eldora.

48 races @ 10 tracks...Hopefully 51 by the end of the weekend...
15-20 rain/sun outs...(thanks Pink Hair Lady )
Highlights~Two new tracks...Roaring Knob and Bedford just last Sunday...
Quality of racing...Grove=D+...Everywhere else=A-
Dollars spent...Approximately $60.00 per show with the bulk of the money going to Big Oil for the fuel...
Opinions may vary...

Second mention of Roaring Knob - first I've heard of it. Where is it in PA? Late Model/Modified/Sprint Cars weekly class? Ya, Stan, LOL, we've all "donated" big bucks to the poor, "barely-getting-by" oil companies logging miles to the races!

Roaring Knob is located 70 miles southeast of Pittsburg, Pa...It's a 4/10th mile oval situated in the Allegheny Mountains...The track opened in 2006 and on May 5, 2013 they hosted their first ever 410 race...They run SLM's as their premier division...I went there for a second time in June for their late model speedweek race that was held on a Monday...I would highly recommend the place to anyone who would listen...
Opinions may vary...

Our season= A+
40 races attended
20 different tracks
Too hard to call on best race...PA sprint week at Lincoln, Indiana midget week at Lawrenceburg and Kokomo perhaps.
Upcoming: Attica and Wayne County, 4 Crown at Eldora, National Open at the Grove and the World Finals.
We have driven well over 30,000 miles this year to the races. Nearest sprint car track to us is 540 miles away.

I don't live near much racing (Colorado) but here's what I've seen, have to squeeze it all in on my yearly trek back East: Pa. Speedweek, Lincoln & WG, July 4th weekend. The Grove again week before Knoxville Nationals. Wingless in Haubstadt, Indiana the next nite. Both Challenges at Osky. Entire 410 Nationals at Knoxville.
Highlites: My first wingless bullring race at Haubstadt. I'm totally sold on this kind of racing now, crushed that I'm missing Smackdown at Kokomo: A+
Schatz' run from 21st. to victory in Finals. Made the whole trip worthwhile, despite rooting against Donny. A+
PA. races: B+
Front Row Challenge: C+
Ultimate Challenge: Incomplete. I think Larson had a good chance, but race stopped after 20 laps
Indiana Speedweek & Kokomo Smackdown don't really work in my present schedule, but I've GOT to work them in....next year?

Any season that I get to attend sprint car racing (360 or 410) I gets an "A" by default.
305's are the herpes of sprint cars

I have to give it an A+, main reason was both of our sons were at the nationals this year with us and our 5 year old grandson son saw his 1st nationals he loved the campground, the golf cart rides to the track during the day, the racing at night most of all, got his picture taken on the track, and with Brian on Sat. night in the pits, I think the little guy is still smilling

I give myself a C just because I didn't get to any other tracks than Knoxville but got to see over a dozen shows including both Nationals. Poor effort on my part travel wise.
Racing was A+. I've been going to races at Knoxville since 1977 (7 yrs old) and the weekly shows have never been better than the last 3-4 years. 360 Nationals feature was more or less in the bag before the green but had some good racing on back. 410 Nationals...what can you say. Good racing and track all week. Passing 20 of the best in the business at the biggest race of the year....hats off.

Grade A
All but 2 shows at Knoxville, WoO at Burlington and Lakeside, first trip to Indiana Sprintweek, great time at Nationals with friends from all over that I only see there. Possibly still to come Silver Crown at Du quion, or midgets at Angle Park, Jesse Hocket memorial and my frist trip to the Chilli Bowl!
