Mike Martin Racing Adds Harli White To
USAC Southwest Freedom Tour Rost
er

By John Lemon
Yuma, Arizona (August 15, 2013)

As if one high performance sprint car from the Mike Martin Racing stables was tough enough to take on, there are now two to contend with this month as MMR has tabbed 18-year-old Harli White of Lindsay, Oklahoma as the second driver of the teams sprint car operation for the upcoming USAC Southwest “Freedom Tour” series. Miss White, who is often referred as the “Lindsay Flash”, is the current sprint car point leader of the Oklahoma based Oil Capital Racing Series (OCRS) and leads that series in main event wins with five. Two of those victory lane visits have come in the non-wing variety.

“I'm so blessed to have this opportunity with Mike Martin Racing,” said White. I want to thank Mike Martin for this great opportunity to race the Freedom Tour. I can't wait to see what I can do in one of them (USAC 360 cars). It's going to be some awesome non-wing racing and it's always great to meet and race against different racers!”

White will compete in the first three of four nights of Freedom Tour action, as she will rejoin the OCRS series on the final night of the Freedom Tour in a conquest to win her first career sprint car championship. White will be behind the same MMR wheel that propelled national open wheel star and 2012 USAC National Champion Bryan Clauson to a half dozen wins between the fall of 2012 and the early portion of 2013. The MMR team utilizes Maxim chassis with Shaver Engines under the hood.

“Mike Martin Racing is excited to have Harli White on board for the first three Freedom Tour races,” said Martin. “While we would have liked to work with Harli for all four nights of the Freedom Tour, we understand her commitment and her drive to win the OCRS championship. It is with much anticipation to witness Harli’s skill firsthand as word of her racing accomplishments have reached the western portion of the U.S. where our team is based. We are excited to have the young lady on board with us. “

Martin added, “We just made an exciting announcement about our team yesterday that ‘PPG Pittsburgh Paints / Glidden Professional’ has come aboard as the primary sponsor of our racing operations for the future and with adding Harli White to drive one of our cars on the USAC Southwest Freedom Tour, along with having an opportunity to see and meet Harli’s fan base in the central plains area, we find this to be an awesome period of time for our racing team.

The USAC Southwest Freedom Tour consists of four straight nights of non-wing sprint car action in Oklahoma and Texas. The dates and tracks are:

August 21: Creek County Speedway / Kellyville, Oklahoma
August 22: 81 Speedway / Wichita, Kansas
August 23: Dodge City Raceway Park / Dodge City, Kansas
August 24: Dodge City Raceway Park / Dodge City, Kansas

Martin, aka “The Magic Man”, currently sits third in the quest for the 2013 USAC Southwest sprint car point championship. He is just 53 points back of second place Charlie Davis Jr. (729-676) while R.J. Johnson leads the championship chase with 817 markers.

A 13-year sprint car veteran, Martin has accumulated seven main event wins including a victory back in April at the Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Az. Martin’s biggest win by far came last October when he scored a USAC national sprint car win using his 360 cu in motor against the more powerful 410 motors. It was the first time in USAC history that a 360 cu in motor won a main event on a national level.

I bet Harli will pass more cars in 3 nights than anybody else on the tour does in all 4 nights.

Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

Talk about a tough hard core racer and Harli could very well be in that conversation.

She won another OCRS race last night (came from 14th to win). Saw her at Lawton earlier this year, she's the real deal. Good luck girl!

Harli going to have a good ride, remember?   Btyan Clauson won a bunch of races with his backup too. He's got good stuff.

Harli is a real racer. And she has run good in the OCRS without a wing. Glad it is a 3 race deal for her so she will have more time in the car to get used to it and dial it in. Take it to the front young lady!!!
