Anyone know who built the "Lee" sprint car chassis during the mid 2000s? Supposedly a Maxim copy. Just wanting to get some info for a friend who has acquired one. Thanks for any help!

Those were built by Jay Krout, owner of Lee Components and Krout's Kustom TIG Welding, in York, PA. You can reach him at 717-854-2988.
They were good cars. Chad Trout used the first one that Jay built to win the 358 Sprint Car Championship at Lincoln Speedway in 2004.

Just curious, where does your friend race? I'm curious as to where the car ended up. Thanks.

The car was bought as part of a package buy out, in Virginia. It's now in the Greater Memphis area, and is being considered as the basis for a 305 car to compete at Riverside (West Memphis, AR) and I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, AR)

Jay also does great repair work. He front clipped a maxim Apple Chevy car that Brian Leppo drove. We picked it up crashed, pretty much trashed and had Jay do the work. That car also had a win at Lincoln Speedway in the 358's with Mark Zellers driving.

He sure does. I work on Chad Trout's team and have seen Jay's work first hand. He's a good guy too.

I called and talked with Jay Krout. He looked up the serial number of the chassis for me, told me who it was originally built for (Adam Wilt), the various little changes he made when building it, even told me what to look for to see if it had been cut/welded on/ or repaired. Super nice guy! Thanks for the info and directing me to him. Having the car put on jig table next week and if it's straight, we'll begin putting it together.
