It was a 12 lap race and there were at least another 12 under yellow. Sammy wasn't the first to run out of fuel. 1/2 gallon more fuel in the tank would have been more than 2 lbs.

If you're going to cut it that close on weight to where a 1/2 gallon of fuel makes a difference you deserve to get nailed at the scale. Him and his team only have themselves to blame....

+1
They've been running with a weight rule for what, 10 yrs, maybe more.
If you don't want to risk being light the car should be weighed ahead of time with bald worn out tires and NO fuel. If you really want to be safe weigh it with only a rim on the RR and only half full of oil and coolant.

Such nonsense... The race was twice the scheduled distance (due to an unreasonable amount of cautions). Multiple teams ran out of fuel. Knoxville should have allowed a fuel stop.
It's obvious that some of you T-Bags love to hate on Sammy, but in this case, Knoxville owns the fuel shortage.

Sammy's night was over long before the scales. When Dustin passed him back on the white flag of the heat he was sunk.

Read the post above pal. These guys are supposed to be professionals, that means you take every possible scenario into consideration. Let's see, Sammy's been running at K-ville for how long...... yeah......he should have known better, PERIOD!
SUPPORT WILDLIFE, go to a sprint car race!

I would guess that he's been running like crap & was pushing the envelope to advance to the A. Weight = speed.
Is the B on non-qualifiers night the time to be conservative? Hindsight is 20/20 for all of us & it's easy to say from the keyboard after the fact "Yes, he should have been conservative & he would have made it".
He put himself in a bad situation every time he's been on track this week. This is a culmination of a bad week in a legendary career.
It's a shame... a couple of years ago he had Knoxville (& some other tracks) figured out as well as anyone. I'd love him to go out on a high but the odds aren't really good for that IMO.
Alphabet soup time! It would be cool to see him move up a la Brad Doty & Doug Wolfgang. Put on a show, Sammy!

Not only should Sammy have made sure of his car weight empty ,but whats up with his crew? Specifically the Crew Chief? Seems to have been "out to lunch" most of the time since being there ,no matter which chassis they've run. If Sammy doesn't lose this ride, which IMO he will,he better revamp his crew and start from scratch OR hang it up.Sammy,s Knoxville effort this year is just proof of how outta sync this team is.

Nice, Very nice. I love the man that takes the opportunity to pour salt in wounds, kick a man when he is down. Definately a character builder. You should be so proud of yourself. Hold your head high Mr. Man of class. Show your true colors. These guys are all professionals and do what they love. Sammy will figure this out and will be back in the Winners circle. Where will you be? Hiding in the bushes like a snake waiting for another opportunity to bite again. It's that character you have showing once again...People, show some class and respect. Not for Sammy or any other racer struggling, but for yourself and your children. Be a leader and a role model.

Oh yeah this was all Knoxville Raceway's fault. If it wasn't the raceway's fault it must be the crew at fault because we already know Sammy can do no wrong. #stillnotwinning. On a side note: I predict this team will self destruct if not before the end of the WoO season schedule shortly after.

Sammy will be back? When? Before the end of the season? If you want to wager that he will return to his #stillwinning ways before the end of this year I'm not a betting man but right now I would take that bet in a heartbeat. He may be back eventually I will give you that one but before the end of this year? Not a chance. You want names? I don't see yours but I will gladly post mine: Chris Lovett. From here moving forward in this thread I'm sure all of us Sammy "haters" will gladly post our names if that's it takes to make you whiners happy. I'm in California and was in downtown Chico last night. At one point I heard a strange noise faintly in the distance but I couldn't quite put my fingers on what it was but now I know what it was: The collective whining of all you WHINERS when you found out you hero was ONCE AGAIN light at the scales. You all know it's not the first. Anyone out there keep stats on stuff like this?

It may have been their fault he ran out of fuel but not their fault the car didn't make weight without it. That's on the Driver and crew cheif.

that has always baffled me. i would think you would never take the chance of being lite. make sure the car will always make weight. how hard is that? i guess to hard for some.

" Weight = speed. " Actually less weight = speed, but I think that is what you meant to say.
Yah, car should make weight with room to spare when bone dry. Actually there should be an overage as well, because they weigh with the driver IIRC, so in a long race, you could sweat off a couple of lbs. of body fluid.
I think this focus on being right on the edge as far as weight is concerned goes a little far and is silly in my eye. Better spend the time focused on having a car set up well then shaving 2 lbs. Two lbs. is not the difference here.
Is it just a coincedence that Steve and Sammy are struggling this year, given both are close in age? I'm not provoking agism here, but it seems to be the common link.

I'm a HUGE Sammy fan, but if you are light at the scales, you only need to look in the mirror. There are quite a few other cars that made the distance and the others weighed OK. Sucks as was hoping he'd make it without trying the alphabet. Maybe if these spint car guys would run REAL sprint car tanks and not midet tanks.......
