2013 RPM Drivers Cross 400 Mark; Mods Tied, 3 Sprints Within 3
Crandall, TX (8/6/13) by DarinShort.com. The 2013 racing season at RPM Speedway in Crandall Texas has been full of new drivers, side-by-side racing on the newly reconfigured surface, large and supportive crowds, special events from the new track management, and now, extremely close point’s battles.
The speedway is proud to announce that there have been 402 different cars competing in the five RPM point’s divisions so far during the 2013 racing season.
Track promoter Jason Troutman comments: “We’d like to thank the drivers for their support of RPM Speedway in 2013. As with any new venture, there’s going to be a bit of a learning curve, but we’ve got a really strong track staff team, and I couldn’t be prouder of the collective effort.”
Troutman adds: “Our goal of keeping the racing programs fresh, week in, week out, has helped elevate our car counts as well as attendance. I just wished the weather would have been a bit more cooperative along the way, but that’s all part of having an outdoor venue.”
Going into this Friday night’s highly anticipated O’Reilly Summer Slam 2, there are several point battles unfolding:
-The USRA Modifieds are all knotted up right now, with Charlie Smith (#3c) and Bobby Ruffin (#121) deadlocked with 469 points.
-The top three drivers in the RaceSaver Sprint Cars are separated by a scant three points. Jeff Day (#95) currently leads with 280 points, with Robert Vetter (#V8) 278 points and Logan Payne (#2) at 277 points. 4th place Michael Lang (#14) is lurking in 4th with 269 points. The RaceSaver Sprint Cars next race is Friday, August 16th.
-Of the 91 different Factory Stock drivers that have taken battle at RPM in 2013, the top two are squaring off for a battle to the championship; with Johnny Lowey (#146) leading the way with 481 points and Brian Marusak (#XLV) 10 points behind.
- Jason Gore (#021) leads the 96-driver Limited Modified list with 529 points, and Tommy Davis, Jr. (#17) is poised to strike in 2nd place with 516 markers.
-The leader of the class in the Street Stocks has been Chris Davis (#98) as he sits on top with 529 points and Tim Clonch (#25c) is in 2nd with 470.
And, if the point’s battles aren’t enough added drama as it is, drivers are racing for beefed up purses this Friday, August 9th at RPM’s O’Reilly Summer Slam 2, with $1,200 earmarked for the feature winners in the USRA Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Limited Modifieds. The top Street Stock* driver will take home a cool $1,000 in cash. (*note that for the remaining 2013 Street Stock events at RPM Speedway, 100% IMCA legal Stock Cars will be allowed to race with the RPM Street Stocks. Drivers must comply to the posted rules, and no exceptions are allowed. Your car must be either RPM Street Stock legal -or- IMCA Stock Car legal – no mix/match of rules allowed.)
This all sets the stage for the $25,000 David Pope Memorial event at RPM Speedway on Saturday, September 7th. USRA Modifieds will be racing for $3,000 to win, plus the $540 to win the Utility Trailer Dash for Cash. The Limited Modifieds will compete for the $2,000 cash winner’s prize. Street Stocks will have a $1,200 to win feature race and the Factory Stocks will pay $1,000 to the first driver to take the checkers. Lots of added awards and events are also planned on this special night – one you will certainly not want to miss. There is no entry fee for any of the racing divisions and regular RPM admission prices of $12 are still in effect.
