UMSS stuff gets posted on here".  Would like to see other tracks post there results aswell.

Like all good things, this site was recked by a few smart &%$ people that think they know everything about racing. Nearly every post was knocked or put down and most poeple just stopped posting!

This board is the older form of social media....most of the tracks in the country are now on Facebook and comparable websites.

There are a lot of factors involved as to why there are fewer posts on this board.  My racing website at gotomn.com has been around since 1999 and I actually created my first racing site as a personal home page in 1996.  I guess you can say that my site is an "old timer" in internet years.  I have used other forum services over the years but eventually settled on this one.  The owner of Hosehead's forums provides provides these boards free of charge to racing websites.  It doesn't cost me anything but on the other hand I don't get any ad revenue or advantages from having it.  My race attendance this season is at it's lowest level since I have been doing this and it seems like the more I'm out there at the track the more interest is generated in the website.

I'm planning on upgrading camera equipment over the winter and increasing my race attendance again next season.  I've got a couple big home remoding projects over the next few months so I have to get those out of the way first.  Besides the camera I've got to do some computer upgrades as well.  I got a new writing opportunity that will have me doing some dirt track articles for an automotive magazine.  If that all goes as planned it should help to fund my racing in the future.

I have mixed feelings about racing coverage on social media sites like Facebook.  It used to be that a person had to learn some programming and pay for web hosting space in order to have a racing website.  Today all they have to do is sign up for Facebook and start a group.  In the meantime ten years ago the tracks had enough cars that they had to run B Mains in just about every class.  Today I look around and see tracks with six or seven classes for a weekly show and one or two Heats and a Feature in just about every class.  The number of competitors took a big fall since 2008 when the economy faltered and at that time there were only a few of us doing racing media work for the papers and magazines.  Today there are fewer than half the number of race cars as ten years ago but ten times as much racing "coverage" on social media.  I leave my Facebook email notifications on and I swear that some of these people spam us with coverage 24/7 day and night.  The way I look at it is that I can write an interesting story supported by my photos that people like to read and that's something not everyone can or wants to do.  That skill of writing and photography can be applied to any subject and it's something I enjoy doing so as long as it's still fun and I can afford to follow racing I'll keep doing it.  Now that I'm 61 going on 62 and have six grandkids keeping us busy I might not go to as many races.  My main interest in racing is the photogarphy and writing.

Anyways, I do appreciate everyone's participation on this board over the years.  I don't get any share of their ad revenue and at times when the discussions got nasty the moderating was a pain but overall it has been a good experience.  I have met a lot of great people and made some life long friends through my website and this board and that's priceless.  I don't look at the number of posts on this board as being indicative of success or failure.  I moderate the board and makeit available for people to use as much or as little as they like.  wink

Some people have put that tag on this site but I'd be willing to bet if you were to tally up all the shows I have attended since starting this site in 1999 Late Models and Modifieds would be well over 50% of my shows.  I checked my schedule a few years ago when I was attending 40+ nights of racing and Sprint shows were only about 30%.  Now that I'm down to fewer shows and the UMSS is running SCVR and CLS there are almost always Sprints on the card whenever I go.  Nevertheless, I have gotten to know a lot of the Late Model and Modified drivers and do not limit my photos and writing to Sprints.  Some photographers shoot one class only and hi tail it out of the infield when they're not on the track.  You have to remember that I spent a good portion of the last 14 seasons attending Cedar Lake weekly shows.

I'm going to give it my best effort to get up to Ogilvie for the Fleischer/Jones Memorial Challenge Series race on August 24th.  There won't be any Sprint Cars that night if I am able to make it.  It's dependent on being able to get on their media list for the night.  The promoter up there told me a few years ago that I'm good to go anytime I want to attend one of their races so it shouldn't be a problem.  That is one of the three remaining shows on my schedule the other being the Kouba night at SCVR on the 17th and the Jerry Richert Sr. Memorial at CLS.

If I manage to win the powerball over the winter I'll buy a motor home and new camera, retire early and get back into it heavy next year.  wink

Laughing at how the lack of interest post sunk to the bottom of the heap after my replies.  I guess that really is a lack of interest.  Ten years ago I'd have gotten a dozen hate emails, a sympathetic offer to visit a track by some promoter and free beer after the races for a month.  My how times change in just a few short internet years.  Stan who?  wink

I cant believe anybody would send you hate emails Stan. I only remember you stay home when the temp drops below 50 degrees.  LOL
