Johnny Key qualifying races continue at Ocean Speedway

WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (July 18, 2013) - Brad Furr leads the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo back into action this Friday night, with the second Johnny Key Classic qualifying race on tap at John Prentice's Ocean Speedway Watsonville.  Furr, in the Price Rite Restaurant Equipment #2, will look to join June 28th winner Bud Kaeding as a locked-in qualifier for the Key.

The 2013 edition of the Johnny Key Classic is Saturday night August 24th.  The 50 lap contest will pay $10,000 to win and will have six automatically locked-in cars: four from the qualifying nights leading up to the event joined by the two highest drivers in the points not yet locked in.

By virtue of being the points leader, Furr is a comfortable position to make the Key through either a qualifying night or by the points element.  Furr leads Gilroy's Kurt Nelson in the Taco Bravo #72w by 49 points in the standings with Salinas' Jeremy Chisum, San Jose's Ryan Rusconi, and San Francisco's Nick Rescino rounding out the top-five in the points.

Furr and Kaeding have each won three times this season while single race wins have been scored by Tommy Tarlton, 2012 Ocean Sprints champion Shane Golobic, Watsonville's Justin Sanders, and Auburn's Andy Forsberg.

Other contenders this season have included Nick Foster, Jr. of San Jose in Wayne Katen's #199.  Foster leads the rookie standings and is seventh overall.  Salinas' Jason Chisum runs eighth with Fresno's Koen Shaw making the most of his trips up the valley to rank ninth overall.

Nicholas Ringo has had a strong season in the Ringo Property Management #3t in tenth in the standings ahead of rookie Nathan Washam from Pleasanton.

Johnny Key Classic laps are on sale through [email protected]  Each lap will be sold for $50 and be distributed to the top three finishers of that lap.

Friday's races for the Ocean Sprints also includes Four Bangers, American Stocks, IMCA Sport Mods, and Wingless Sprints.  Adult tickets are just $17 with seniors 65+ $16 and kids ages 6-12 are $15.  The family pass for two adults and two children is value priced at just $55.  Qualifying will get underway at 6 p.m.

Wow... I just read a guy was arrested for driving drunk at your track. I've seen a lot of questionable drivers high or drunk at the track before the main started, but never heard someone going to jail and getting a DUI on a racetrack. Cali must be strict on the rules? BTW I don't condone racing under the influence of any substance.
