Brian Brown Tops Sioux Speedway JSTS Sprint Car Feature
Gary Brown, Jr., Keegan Scott, & Drew Barglof Winners

SIOUX CENTER, IOWA A large crowd was on hand at Sioux Speedway as the 4th Annual Ver Hoef Automotive Sprint Car Showdown took center stage on Wednesday, July 17 during the Sioux County Fair. It was a hot summer night and the action on the track was all out in all divisions. The B and B Salvage Hobby Stocks were the first to the track for their main event. Drew Barglof #45 and Justin Luinenberg #17 started out front and battled early for the lead. A few cautions slowed the race action, but Barglof, was able to pull away on a green-white-checker finish to win his 4th Sioux Speedway feature. Spencer, IA’s Brandon Nielsen won the last two Sioux Speedway events and took advantage of the last restart to move into second place in the #T8 car. Luinenberg finished third with Darin Johnson fourth in #20J, and #32 Justin Regnerus rounding out the top five.

The Steve Brouwer Trucking B-Modified feature had two tough competitors out front early, but when Steve Bents’ #15B and Jake Simpson’s #5 cars got together it took those two out of contention for the win and relinquished the lead to Orange City, IA’s Nate Mosterd. Mosterd kept his #26 machine out front for much of the middle of the race, but a restart allowed Keegan Scott to grab the lead in car #83. Randy Brands tried to reel in Scott, but ended up second in car #32. June 27 winner Dustin Kruse finished third in #6. Mosterd finished in the fourth spot, and #14, Jason Fisher finished fifth.

For the first time in many years, the “outlaw” Late Model Street Stocks took to the speedway and ran caution free to the finish. Gary Brown, Jr. started on the outside of the front row and showed why he is one of the top competitors at the Sioux Falls area tracks. Brown stretched out a lead and was never challenged, though lap traffic did allow Cory Yeigh to gain on Brown late. Brown, Jr. put his #22 in victory lane in his first trip to the half-mile. Yeigh was second in his #64 car. Street Stock rookie and former Sioux Speedway hobby stock competitor, Travis Schreurs was third in his #1 car. Eric Moser drove the #1M to fourth and Zach Van Voorst was fith in #56.

Thirty-two JSTS winged 360 sprint cars were on hand to battle for the 4th Annual Sprint Car Showdown crown. Dusty Zomer, Brian Brown, Justin Jacobsma, and Jamie Veal picked up heat race wins. Terry McCarl was the winner of the B-Feature that saw a red flag when the #14X of Brent Schuggs flipped over the turn 1 & 2 guardrail. The A-Feature lined up with Australian Jamie Veal, #35AU, and Grain Valley, Missouri’s Brian Brown, #21, on the front row. Brown took the early lead and stretched it out until the only yellow of the main event flew for Jordan Martens’ #13 car. The yellow reset the field and gave Veal a chance to challenge Brown. The two ran side by side for a few laps after the caution with Veal on the inside and Brown on the outside. Veal gave it his best, but Brown searched for the fast line and tiptoed up by the guardrail and in the bottom groove to take the win. Veal was second. 2011 winner Gregg Bakker, #11X, finished in third. Califorinian Rico Abreu started in the eleventh spot and charged up to fourth in the #24A car. Dusty Zomer finished up in fifth with #91.

Thanks to everyone that supported Sioux Speedway in 2013. We hope to see you again next year.
