$25,000 David Pope Memorial at RPM Speedway 9/7
CRANDALL, TX (7/17/13) by DarinShort.com. David Pope thrilled race fans with his on-track driving style at several North Texas tracks throughout the years in his familiar #54 car. For 25 of those years David raced in Crandall, and now race fans and teams alike can celebrate his friendship and dedication to the sport with the running of the 2nd Annual David Pope Memorial event at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas.
The event will be held on Saturday, September 7th. A massive $25,000 total purse is on the line to the drivers of the USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and Limited Modifieds – with no driver entry fees. All heats in all four divisions will be draw for position with passing points utilized to determine feature race starting positions.
Fans will be greeted with several special attractions at the David Pope Memorial event, including sky divers during the National Anthem and a large fireworks display. Adult tickets are just $12, with Youth tickets (ages 6-12) are $5, while ages 5 and under are free with an adult. Lots of prizes to be given away.
All pit passes are $30 and there are no track registration fees. This is an RPM and USRA point’s event. All cars must be RPM Speedway legal to race.
The USRA Modifieds will be competing for $3,000 to win in their 35-lap championship feature race. The race will start 24 cars and the complete purse is posted at the track website and on the event flyer.
In addition, Utility Trailer of Dallas is presenting the $540 to win Dash for Cash. The top six in USRA Modified passing points after the heat races will be eligible for the race.
The Utility Trailer of Dallas Dash for Cash lineup will be determined by ‘Gamblers Draw’ format; where the top six drivers from heat race passing points are lined up and will pick a sealed envelope from a plate that contains a number. The driver must give away that starting position to the remaining drivers that have yet to receive an envelope from their competitors in the race. The finishing order of the six-lap dash will comprise the front three rows of the Championship feature race.
Muirhead Trucking of Mabank Texas is presenting the Hard Charger winners in all four feature races cash awards. The Hard Charger in the USRA Modifieds will receive $200, while the Hard Charger in the Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and Limited Modifieds will each receive $100.
The Limited Modifieds will be racing for a whopping $2,000 to win in their 25 lap championship race. There is no entry fee, but all cars must be RPM Speedway legal. Complete rules are posted at the track website (linked below).
The winner of the Street Stock feature will receive $1,200, and they will be racing for 25 laps as well. Cars in this division must be RPM Speedway legal. The only exception is, if your car is 100% IMCA Stock Car legal, you can run this event. There is no entry fee for the Street Stocks.
Factory Stocks will be racing for $1,000 to win during their 25 lap feature race. There is no entry fee for the Factory Stocks, however all cars must be RPM Speedway legal. Note that Factory Stocks with power glide transmissions must run asphalt tear off tires on all four corners. Complete rules are at the track website.
The pit gate opens at 3pm and the grandstand gates swing open at 5pm. Hot laps and draw cutoff are at 7pm with opening ceremonies and the sky divers at 7:45pm.
Adults grandstand tickets are just $12, seniors ages 65 and older or active military get in for $10, youth ages 6-12 are $5 and children 5 & under are free with adult purchase. All pit passes are $30.

Purse Increases Revealed for David Pope Memorial at RPM Speedway, Sept. 7
Crandall TX (8/13/13) by DarinShort.com. The building excitement of the upcoming David Pope Memorial event at RPM Speedway in Crandall Texas on September 7th has grown even further, as three purse increases have been announced.
First off, Utility Trailer of Dallas, Inc. has increased their sponsorship level for the $540 to win Utility Trailer of Dallas Dash for Cash. The event will consist of the top six in USRA Modified points at the conclusion of the heat races on September 7th. In addition to the $540 winners share, all remaining Dash for Cash starters will now receive $54. The finishing order of the Utility Trailer of Dallas Dash for Cash will make up the first three rows of the 35-lap, $3,000 to win, David Pope Memorial championship feature to be held later that evening.
This past Friday at RPM's O'Reilly Summer Slam 2, great fields of cars in each RPM points division were on hand. Due to the tremendous driver and fan support for the event, the Street Stock and Factory Stock purses have been raised for the David Pope Memorial.
The Street Stocks are now racing for $1,500 to win - as will the Factory Stocks. There are no changes in ticket pricing or added costs to the competitors as a result of these changes. (A reminder to the Street Stock division: 100% IMCA legal Stock Cars are legal for all remaining 2013 RPM events. There is no mixing/matching of rules; your car must be either RPM Street Stock legal - or - IMCA Stock Car legal to compete.)
These changes bring the total purse of the David Pope Memorial event to in excess of $26,000.
In other event news, the start times have been changed. By September 7th, the sun starts to set quite a bit earlier, 7:45pm to be exact. And the FAA requires any type of skydiving event to be underway by sundown. So here are the new times:
-Pits open by 3pm -Grandstands open at 5pm -Draw Cut-off/Hot Laps at 6:30 sharp! -Opening ceremonies and racing at 7pm
There are no competitor entry fees or registration fees for new drivers. Pit passes are $30 and adult grandstand ticket prices are the regular price of just $12. Kids 6-12 are $5; and ages 5 and under are free with adult admittance.
Small drink coolers are allowed in the main grandstand area, however, they must fit under your legs and not take up a seat in the grandstand area. No glass containers allowed through the grandstand gates. Coolers will be searched and restricted in size. Please be respectful of this track policy, and to other fans that want a seat to watch the event.
In addition to the skydivers during the national anthem and the big fireworks display during intermission, there are also some unadvertised surprises for the fans in attendance...so make plans now to be a part of this exciting event!

Horns Locked in Modified Points going into Pope Mem'l at RPM 9/7
Crandall, TX (8/30/13) by DarinShort.com. As if skydivers, fireworks, 'invaders' from throughout the region, and a $4,000+ payday weren't enough, not to be forgotten is the Modified division points battle going into championship night during the $27,000 David Pope Memorial at RPM Speedway in Crandall Texas on Saturday, September 7th.
Two Modified drivers are tied for first place in division points, which will further elevate the racing drama throughout the evening. Charlie Smith (#3c) and Bobby Ruffin (#121), both fielding Hughes Chassis modifieds, will fight it out in the tightest Modified points battle in track history.
It will all come down to the driver that finishes ahead of the other to determine the 2013 RPM Speedway Modified Points Champion - so fans will get to witness this race within a race.
It is also RPM points championship night in the Limited Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Street Stocks.
Leading the way in the Limited Modified division is Jason Gore (#021) in his H8R Chassis, followed by Tommy Davis, Jr. (#17) in his Wicked Chassis. Gore leads Davis by 13 markers - but as witnessed in the RPM RaceSaver Sprint Car division two weeks ago, anything can happen on championship night!
Johnny Lowey (#146) in the Factory Stocks and Chris Davis (#98) in the Street Stocks have locked up the points titles in their respective divisions after stellar performances throughout the racing season.
The September 7th race date is now in the long range forecast, and current trends show seasonal temperatures and dry conditions. Coupled with 7:45pm sunset, it will make for excellent racing weather and comfortable viewing from the grandstands.
Please note the earlier start times - as every effort will be made to adhere to this schedule:
-Pits open by 3pm -Draw-in opens at 4pm -Grandstands open at 5pm -Mandatory track packing by 6pm -Hot Laps by 6:30pm (they will begin as soon as the track is packed, so it may be earlier!) -Draw Cut-off at 6:30 sharp (heats are by passing points, so don't miss out on the draw in!) -Opening ceremonies, including skydivers, at 7pm sharp
There are no competitor entry fees or registration fees for new drivers. Pit passes are $30 and adult grandstand ticket prices are the regular price of just $12. Kids 6-12 are $5; and ages 5 and under are free with adult admittance. Drivers competing in more than one division must purchase a pit pass for each division they are competing in. LoneStar Speedway-legal Factory Stocks are legal at RPM for this event, as long as they meet the minimum RPM weight requirement of 3,200#. 100% IMCA legal Stock Cars are legal to race in the RPM Street Stock division - and there is no mixing or matching of rules allowed.
The track also has some surprises in store, which will not be unveiled until race night - so make plans to arrive early and take in all of the fun!
