It's a shame that this race is no longer a 50 lapper like it always used to be,to me it kind of takes some of the prestige of winning this race away.

I've never seen it as a 50-lapper, think it was 40 the first year I went. Either way, this is going to be a special event for us. My 4 year old is attending his first sprint car race!! We're really looking forward to Perris on July 4!

I have to agree with you. everybody misses the longer races. The prestige is gone now its just another 30-Lap race with a fireworks show. I wish there were a few 50 lap races again.

Be sure to bring the safety glasses and ear plugs for your 4 year old . And ENJOY. Be sure you get the memories of the look on the face when the cars go flying by and the smeared softie ice cream on the face.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

I think that the 1976 race that Mike Shaw won was 76 laps!

Thanks for the tip! We have the plugs...didn't think about glasses since we'd be on the straight, but me might go down to the turns for a heat or hot laps. I'm sure we'll be making more than a few trips to the refreshment stand!

This will be my first race at Perris this year. Does anybody know if they will have any cars and/or drivers out front before the show starts? I think my son will be pretty jazzed to see the cars up close. Also, what time does the show actually start? Thanks in advance!

Take a look at the program front pages scanned in above. At least a couple of the races were 50 lap races. I remember the 1976 one and am pretty sure it was 76 laps as stated above. My memory fails me as to whether there was a stop to refuel or not. Tucson Osty

I wasn't there but I remember that the weekly Ascot program had a time listed for that race in the track records section. I'm thinking that there weren't any fuel stops or cautions, unless caution laps counted.
