We often see tracks advertize as being the fastest 1/2 mile or fastest 3/8 mile track. I think it is difficult to say that this 1/2 mile or that 3/8 mile track is the fastest because the track lenghts vary due to where they are measured. I would like to see a list giving the straightaway and corner speeds for the various size tracks. Anyone ever see a list like this?

We actually have a friendly discussion about this general topic on ElbowsUp.com right now.
It's not so much about what tracks advertise, as it is figuring it out yourself utilizing the free software available from Google Earth.

Old promoters trick. Bill a 4/10 mile track as a 1/2 and then brag about lap times and speeds.

At one Knoxville national about 20 years ago they had a speed meter on the fastest part of track that showed the speed of each car. I thought that was pretty neat. Hope they do it again.

On the TNN broadcasts from Bristol they had a highway patrol or sheriffs dept radar gun at the end of the backstretch and it was showing 166-169 pretty regularly....insane..
At West Plains, MO in the late 90's/early 2000s they had a radar gun one year that was shooting 138ish in qualifying...West Plains is a superfast red clay banked 3/8 mile track that was producing average speeds within 12MPH of the end of straightaway speeds.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

Would be interesting to know? Eldora billed as a 1/2 mile looks very fast but I would almost bet that Knoxville also billed as a 1/2 mile has faster speeds on the straights. The corners not sure... Eldora looks faster but could be an optical illusion thing!! I think Eldora Speedway would fit inside the infield at Knoxville. Burlington (34 Raceway) on the other hand is billed as a 3/8 mile and it
don't seem near as big as Eldora..
