1st let me say what a good car count, 24 wingless and about 28 360s . thought it would be low do to the civil war in chico but I was wrong.

2nd racing was exciting and I seen schank was there racing keeping his cool. good news.

but heres a few words for you mr nocetti, get a few more officials on the track you guys could have injured that 22 car very badly, and also the annoucers need to pay a little more attention to whats going on.

for you all that were not there , the 1 jake car was qualifying and hit a tire on his first lap tire flew on track.. jake came around no yellow hit tire again all most wrecked.. tire still on track ..they send next car out ,still no yellow, im yelling half the stands yelling.. and guess what 22 car comes around still no yellow and hits tire and barrel rolls .. poor young mans car is tore up .. they were lucky there was no disaster.. anyways hope that opened there eyes and put a few more people around.. all in all great show ..ps never seen a race where they started every one 27 or 28 every body who could, started A main, again had a great time..One more thing you announcers if your going to announce please come early and do your home work.. get the cars and the sponcers so you don't look so unprofessional.. us fans deserve that thanks again Stockton 99 dirt

I was told by mr.noceti that he didnt need qualified officals,he said a monkee could flag the races, well i guess they forgot to feed the monkee, with all the money he made on the outlaws show he should have made the adjustments, but as u can tell he didnt, there plenty of talented officals out there, but he doesnt want to pay them.

I made the trip out on Friday to check out the new track. I think a few things need to be addressed for sure. As mentioned there really needs to be more qualified officials. The tire issue being one. I also understand the fact that we are sharing the horse track but the flag people really need to be better protected, and on the outside of the track with a better view of the whole racing surface. They looked like volunteers at best and the communication was very slow with one having to watch one side of the track and the other watching the other side. Some definite safety concerns for sure. I think it could have helped avoid the issue of the tire during qualifying. Also as a fan It would be really nice to have announcers who were informed of how the program was being run. It totally seemed like they were making it up as they went and made it take forever.( I left at the beginning of the non wing A as I had an hour + drive home and it was already midnight. I sit in the stands at a lot of races and I was very confused all night as to what was happening. I know this is all new and there are growing pains to come but I think it is very important that they have trained officials in every position from a safety standpoint.( heck there wasn't even a start cone till the start of the first heat where they ran one out and guy you could barely was marking it) All that said I was very pleased with the track. looking at pictures I was afraid the grandstand were too far away but it wasn't as bad as I had imagined. I will be back for sure in the future. I plan on taking in the KWS race hoping they are running the show. Like I said this is all new and I suspect this will get better in the future. Just glad to have another track.

Finally livin the dirt dream.

I seldom sit in the stands but when I do I have no problems with the announcers. I just ignore them. Do it...it makes for a much better night at the races!

Wasn't Ron Lindgren, track announcer at Petaluma, one of the announcers in the booth Fri night? If so, id say any confusion about the program was because the show was put together relatively late, at least the winged show was, and they probably weren't provided an itinerary for the program. Aside from Ron being a huge Jeff Ensign homer, he is his PR guy, he calls a pretty good race and knows the fellow racers quite well. I know there was a 2nd person in the booth, who i did not recognize. Only so much Ron can do if he has to carry his counterpart through out the night. Ron, I know you post here often, please give your take on the night from the booth perspective.

1) I am not a paid employee of Stockton 99 Dirt. 2) The opinions below do NOT reflect anyone else's opinion, ESPECIALLY those of Stockton 99 Dirt. 3) Wayne Pierce and Davey Munoz are friends of mine. They will continue to be friends of mine. The words "voice of" were made for those two. They are two of the classiest guys you will ever meet, and their unabashed love of the sport of car racing is not to be questioned at any time.

As far as Friday night, there were three announcers. Wild Wayne Pierce, the track announcer, Davey Munoz, the Madera announcer and myself.

I have to thank the Noceti's for their welcoming me and my family as we had traveled down there to see Geoff race, as Geoff is family and every race he is at, we try to be in the stands, Petaluma announce schedule willing. Homer? Yeah, probably. He's family, and I'll touch on things later I guess. I'm a fan first when it comes to the announcing thing, say some stuff I probably shouldn't, give opinions on an open mic that might anger some on the other end, but I'm not going to apologize for that. I am one of you racefans first. Always have been. Now that we got that out of the way: It was supposed to be a night off for me, but hell, when you're up in the booth and someone offers you a microphone, you're very much a fan of the night's main shows, then they add air conditioning to boot, well...

There was confusion in the booth between officials and us, yes. USAC had their officials up in the booth, and they ran the show. Now, USAC officials don't, and aren't expected to know who the winged 360 guys are, which led to some of it. I entered all the winged drivers names into their scoring computer as I also do scoring while announcing at Petaluma, so it was just easier for me to say move out of the way, I got this. That crisis averted, then the format deal came into play. I don't know how the one lap qualifying thing came about for the winged cars. I still don't. Adding to that confusion was the night's main announcer, Wayne Pierce's laptop wasn't working. That damn computer is absolutely a necessary evil with the multiple show/division format. He could have called the entire deal had that damn laptop been able to be used. He was relegated to looking over the shoulder of USAC officials during qualifying. When the names and divisions constantly change, no one can keep up with names, hometowns and major sponsors without 1) that damn computer and 2) knowledge of how things are going to work for the night. We didn't know what was coming next other than seeing cars in staging and taking a wild guess. Hell, I even said that to you guys who were listening. We had no lineups, nothing that says "this is the format we are using". We were winging it with two admitted pavement guys (albeit two guys who could and would have talked my ass right out of the booth if it was me at a pavement race and I was the one unfamiliar with names and sponsors) and myself, who had just gotten out of the car and carried my sleeping 7 year old to the pit gate line. I was under the impression Civil War procedures were going to be used for the winged cars, but then they inverted 4 in the heat races. Again, WE had no idea what was happening up there other than "when the lights go out, there's your lineup".

Myself, I had done absolutely zero prep except for saying hi to some as I walked through the pits to the stands. Literally, 99% of everything I said that night was off the top of my head Hell, I kinda like it that way to tell you the truth.

Let's remember Stockton 99 Dirt is a new facility. There are still many "new" things to work out. I had a conversation with Carol Noceti on the way down there, and you can tell the passion runs deep for them. Despite the hurdles in the booth, the racing out there was pretty damn good, and the $15 admission fee was well worth the show you got in my opinion. Anyway, there's my .02 cents, not that it means a whole lot. I can't blame anyone but the situation at the time as it presented itself. I certainly don't blame the Noceti's, nor can I blame us three up there going with what we had to work with. It was just a tough situation we dealt with and worked our way through it the best we could.

And that friggin' Ensign kid can wheel a sprint car of any configuration. Winged, non-winged, 360, 410, spec...The main event win count is now at 22 lifetime in just over three years behind the wheel for the 23 year old Ensign, and there are 5 wins in 2013 alone. The kid wants to be a traveling sprint car driver but hell, that damn money thing keeps getting in the way. - Ron

I was glad you were in the booth, Ron, and I appreciated your trying to make sense of the program. I know the other two announcers are your friends, but, as a fan, I have no use for them. They do zero preparation and just babble endlessly about nothing. You provide more useful info in 10 minutes than they do all night. Oh, by the way, tix cost $20, and parking was $10. No bargains.

More qualified officials? How is that possible? This thing was run by USAC - the BEST sanctioning body on the face of the Earth. How could you possibly find anyone more talented than them as they only hire THE BEST? (sarcasm for those that missed it).

Usac brings 3 or 4 officals, the host track supplies the flagman and the other officals, more training is needed, alot of times u have one chance to make a good impresson to new fans, the quick fix hire some ringers to help u run your programs,a very big key is your flagman, get one with experience, and please put the flag stand where it belongs,so when most of your fans are YELLING throw the yellow because a tire is on the track the flagman will be able to hear them.

To be fair what I meant by the announcers didn;t know what was going i was trying to say that it sounded like they were being fed the program as it went . As in they were not informed of the program. Then they got one version Then they were fed the other version. Not that had no idea how to announce. But that they were not informed at all as to what the program was.

Finally livin the dirt dream.

I stand corrected on the prices. Sorry about that, and thanks for the kind words. - Ron

...he said a monkee could flag the races.

A Monkee?? Well Davey died, so that leaves either Michael, Micky or Peter!
