I think it would be difficult to find a sprint car driver who has been more dedicated to the sport over such a long time than Randy Droescher. Here's my column on him today in the Sioux Falls Argus Leader.

Rob, Great story on Randy and the family. I was a member of Randy's team for several years, When I first joined the team Randy and the family would drive up from Hadar Ne. Friday race at Rock Rapids, goto Sioux Falls and get up at 7am and start working on the car in the Ramkota Inn parking lot, we would load up and race Hartford and start all over in the morning then race at Huset on Sunday night. After the races Randy and the family would load up and head back to Hadar so that Randy could open his mechanic shop at 8am. Randy taught me everything about building a sprint car from the ground up, we would spend long nights rebuilding after a crash, but always thank us after the races. Randy and his family treated all the team members as part of the family, and we would always promote good sportsmanship buy helping other teams if we could.
In 5 years of helping Randy we didnt miss a race due to injuries or breakdowns until a crash at Hartford and even after that crash only missed two races and was back at Hartford the following week. I was proud to be with that team for many years, we may not have won alot but we did win our share. Randy, Dianna, Misty and Bobbi were great friends and have great memories with them all.

Pittroll, I really should have mentioned how much Randy said he appreciated the help he received from people like you over the years. Obviously, he couldn't have raced so often over such a long time without a lot of assistance.
People like you, who spend hours of their time for no pay helping racers to compete, are truly the unsung heroes of the sport.

Thanks Rob, I know how much the whole family appreciated the crew they showed it by treating us like part of the family. We did it cause of the love of the sport and because who Randy and Dianne were to all of us. I havent been able to help because of a car accident years ago but I will always have my memories of the late night repairs, the 100 degree heat in the ramkota inn parking lot rebuilding the motor and cars and even both Misty and Bobbie's wedding days. Great Memories with the whole Droescher Crew and many other teams that were always there to help each other when needed.

Nice article Rob. It brings back memories of Duane (No Dust) Davis for me as he was one of Randy's biggest fans....

I don't think you can talk to Randy for very long about his racing career without him mentioning Duane. Randy really enjoyed his friendship with Duane and was very appreciative of what Duane did for him.
And thanks to all for the kind words. I really enjoy doing stories about people like Randy. He didn't win a ton of races or titles but I found his dedication over his lifetime to the sport we love amazing. I'm very glad I could share his story and give him some recognition.
Perhaps the best thing about the story (for me) was that after talking to Randy I finally scheduled a long overdue PSA test for myself.
