I'm in alaska this week. A local tells me there is sprint car racing in fairbanks. Even a ford that wins. Anyone have any details for me? Thanks
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

" Even a ford that wins."
That long, cold winter must have affected his reasoning!
I LEARNED ESP FROM MY MOM
"PUT YOUR SWEATER ON: DON'T YOU THINK I KNOW WHEN
YOU'RE COLD?"

I remember an article many many years ago about sprintcar racing in Alaska..they had one track with a limited sprintclass...said the dirt was mostly volcanic ash...I got the newest version of the national speedway directory in the mail last week and according to it there are 3 dirt tracks in AK that run 360 sprints regularly...one every Friday, one every Saturday, and one every other Saturday during the season.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

I looked a the pic gallery on that link posted. Man, do they run a dusty, dry track. Volcano ash is not the gumbo, moisture holding clay we are used to it looks like. I bet a lot of fans in the stands wear goggles there!

I used to live In Anchorage. At the time I heard that there were a total of 6 Sprint Cars of various engine configurations in the state. It looks like there's a lot more than that now.
I don't think the Fairbanks track would have a volcanic ash/soil surface but it might. Alaskan soils do tend to have LOTS of organic material in them (think compost), and very little clay (unless it's near a river) which would make them dry out quickly. Add in 23 hours of daylight this time of year and a hotter/drier than normal summer for them so far and you can see why it might be dusty.
If I ever make it back and find myself in Fairbanks on the weekend with nothing to do, I'll have to check it out.

A car came down from Alaska last year and ran the NW ASCS Speedweek. I can't remember the name but the car number was 11ak. Thought that was pretty cool a car came down to race with us.

Think there was only 1 sprint car this night and 3 late models but I got this picture https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=661198040563407&set=pb.100000196526494.-2207520000.1372028612.&type=3&theater

Probably only track with live moose!
I was hitch hiking in Alaska back in '94. Driver starts screaming at car in front for slowing down to look at a moose. "Ain't ya never seen a damn moose before?"
GORGEOUS state!! makes Colorado look like Joisey.....
