John Rittenoure - Monett, MO. (June 14, 2013) - Friday night the unexpected happen to Kacee Frazier. Kacee and her dad, Billy, traveled to Monett Speedway to race with the winged warriors of the OCRS. It was just her second OCRS event of the season and the possibility of winning was not really on her mind. But that possibility quickly became very real to Kacee after earning the pole in the 25-lap feature. Kacee jumped into an early lead then withstood a challenge from young Chance Morton to earn her first career OCRS feature victory. “It is exciting. I feel like I have been working on it for three years and it finally came,” smiled Frazier speaking of the reality that she had finally won. “I did not expect it at all and I felt like it slipped through my fingers there a couple of times in lapped traffic. I just did not let it defeat me and I stayed in position to take the win.” Morton chased Frazier throughout the race and before the halfway mark managed to slip inside of Frazier and take away the lead. But she was not about to give up that easily. “There was a long stretch at the beginning and he got around me in lapped traffic,” recalled Kacee. “He passed me on the inside. I just got up there on his bumper and waited for him to get in some more cars. Fortunately I was watching where they were running every lap so I was able to make my move around the outside.” Patiently waiting for the right moment, Frazier stalked Morton and used lapped traffic to take the lead back. This time for good. “He got to lapped traffic and they kept cutting down to the bottom and he was trying to go underneath him,” Frazier said of Morton. “When he cut low I just went around all of them at the same time then made sure I stayed on the gas really hard after that.” Late in the race Brian McClelland appeared in Frazier’s peripheral vision and she began to worry about her pace. “I did not know who was behind me and honestly I got a little scared,” Frazier said. “Brian McClelland pulled up on the top on that last restart and I thought, he we go. He and I have battled it out at Creek (County Speedway) lately. He is a stout driver so who knows where he is at.” But Frazier held her line for the win as McClelland faded to fifth. “You just have to go out there and run your own race and be as fast as you can and pray it all goes well,” Frazier said. “I was trying to run the bottom to the middle because I felt I could keep a more steady car there and drive it in a lot harder than I could on the top. “I got up a little too high in (turns) 3 and 4 towards the end of the race and about spun out. So I made sure to cover my break and keep it on the bottom for the next few laps.” After picking up his first victory on May 25 at Caney Valley Speedway Morton settled for a second place finish. Danny Smith came from eighth starting position to finish third, Terry Easum worked his way to fourth after becoming involved with Kyle Clark in an early race incident and points runner-up Brian McClelland rounded out the top five. McClelland was able to pick up eight points on points leader Harli White who finished eighth. White is holding a 56 point advantage going into Saturday’s event at Tri-State Speedway. Just to lend my trusty "assistant" a helping hand...........
(Thanks to Mr. John Rittenoure for assisting me on the weekend recap reports while I attended to some other business this past weekend).
