In case no one noticed, Ryan Kaplan has been quitely leading the USAC Western States Sprints Points. Currently he has a 2 point lead of past series champion Tony Hunt.

he HAD a 30 point lead until Altamont. It's cool, he'll run it back up.
Also, J-Rod is doing pretty well in the mibjets too!

Ryan mentioned, when we talked at Madera, that he was going to try a winged car at Chico. Any news on that ? Ryan, if you read this, let us know.

Ryan ran a winged 4:10 for the Bradway Had a top 7 going until he got ran over on the last lap. The kid is a class act and knows how to wheel a car. I spoke with his father and they said that he might run some more Chico shows this year or next. But as well as he is doing in USAC. I have a feeling that he is going to continue down that road on his way to NASCAR.

Ryan will be in our car the end of the month at Chico for 2 days. We love the kid!!
He was also in it for the Bradway, he can drive anything, he's the most natural driver I have ever seen in a race car.

How about "Captain"...as in "Captain Ryan Kaplan" - Something different, Flyin' has been used and overused all across the sprint car and racing world. Just a thought.

Sorry for any confusion there. I didn't mean for it to become his new nickname. I mispelled Ryan with an F and when I proofed it changed it to Flyin. Feel free to call him anything you want including damn good.
I am sure Ryan doesn't care what people call him as long as its not late for dinner

Hey guys,
I just got home and was searching the boards when I saw a topic with my name! How is everyone doing? First off thank you for all the kind words on here, I appreciate it. I will try to answer most of the questions I saw. First off, we are leading the USAC Western States Sprint car points and our season has been going pretty well up until the last two races. For some reason we have not been able to get the car to handle consistently the last couple of weeks and it got bad at Altamont this past weekend. The car felt like it was on ice in the main event and I used up all of my shock adjustments in the main to try and tighten the car up but it was still dead loose. On Tuesday of this week I went down to our shop in Fresno and helped the guys strip down the frame in order to put our new frame under the car. Once the frame was stripped down, we found a good-sized crack in the lower right rear section of the frame. After finding this, we got the new frame swapped over and we started the car up at around five o'clock today. I am very excited to head to Salt Lake with a fresh frame this weekend it was starting to drain me driving a car that was not consistent!
On the nickname subject... Call me anything you want. Nicknames are cool
People used to call me Fly'n Ryan when I raced go-karts. Now it seems to have switched to Kappy or Happy Kappy (Thanks Fauver)... I have not heard the Captain one yet lol.
The winged dirt car subject. A while back, I was lucky enough to have Troy Hovey put me in his winged 410 car to race the Dave Bradway Memorial. Looking back on it I wish he wouldn't have put me in it because now when I am not racing my pavement cars all I have on my mind is how I can afford to get myself back in one! The winged cars are definitely one of the most fun racecars I have ever driven. NASCAR is my main goal but I am playing with the idea of maybe buying a winged car next year to run on my off weekends.
Next weekend when the Golden State Challenge returns to Chico, I am going to be racing Rod Fauver's Race Ready Rentals J&J Sprint car on Friday and Saturday. I am excited to get back out to Silver Dollar with a great team and car. If any of you come out to watch make sure you stop by our trailer after the races to talk and hang out. I will have my sweatshirts and hats for sale afterwards also.
Have a great week and I will talk to everyone soon or I will see you at the track next week!

By the way- I send out a weekly newsletter about how everything has been going with my racing. If you want to be added to my mailing list then go to my website and send me an e-mail telling me to add you!

Opp's, that's right you were in Hovey's car!! You've driven our car enough so I just think it is you!
You are such a class act, Ryan. Please don't stop posting here about your racing, we all are interested to hear the updates!! NASCAR will be the lucky one if you decide to go that way!
It's true, Rod started calling Ryan "Happy Kappy" because he is always smiling. I like to call him "The Kid" when one of his mentor's is around, Jimmy Sills. They call Jimmy the "Professer". So I call them "The Professer and The Kid". A good nickname for him would be "The Shoe" because he can "shoe" any kind of a race car amazingly well!!
PS: If you ever have met his Mom and Dad, Paula and Ken, you would know why Ryan is such a class act, his parents are some of the best people you will ever meet. He also has a sister, Jen, and she is super too! They all are just one great family.

I met Ryan when he showed up with Rod while my son was at Sills school. Ryan jumped right in to help with everything, was smiling the whole time, and offered some great compliments.
A very nice kid and a class act.
