CHARLES DAVIS JR. MARCHES TO QUEEN CREEK VICTORY by Lance Jennings
QUEEN CREEK, AZ – JUNE 9, 2013... Taking the lead on lap six, “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. of Buckeye led the rest of the way to claim his second win of the campaign. The $1,500 USAC SouthWest victory at Arizona Speedway ended R.J. Johnson’s 4-race winning streak as the series heads to Casa Grande on June 22nd. Shon Deskins, Johnson, Chris Bonneau, and Stevie Sussex followed Davis to the checkered flags.
Piloting the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / Rod End Supply RSS, Charles Davis Jr. swept the program by winning the night’s first heat race, winning the Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash, and winning the 30-lap feature. To date, the five-time Arizona Sprint Car Champion is second in the point chase with three heat race victories, two Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash wins, one semi-main win, one hard charger award, ten top-10 finishes, and 61 feature laps led to his credit.
Phoenix’s Shon Deskins had his best finish of the year with a second place run at Arizona Speedway. Racing his #20 Performance Plus / Ellis Race Cars entry, Deskins was second in his heat race and claimed fourth in the dash. The veteran driver is currently fourth in championship points with four heat race victories, one hard charger award and seven top-10 finishes on the season.
After winning the last four races, R.J. Johnson of Phoenix had to settle for third on this night. Driving Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson won the program’s second heat race and second in the dash. The second generation driver holds a 63 point advantage with six feature wins, five heat race victories, two Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash wins, one hard charger award, ten top-10 finishes, and 127 feature laps led on the year.
Phoenix’s Chris Bonneau had a strong night with fourth place finish in the 30-lap feature. Piloting his #78 Priced Right Auto Sales Triple X, Bonneau placed second in his heat race and claimed fifth in the dash. Despite missing some early races, Chris has climbed to sixth in the standings with five top-10 finishes and 12 feature laps led.
Stevie Sussex of Tempe earned his fourth "Hard Charger / Best Passing Job" honors with a fifth place run after starting sixteenth. Racing Steve Stone’s #57X Westin Homes / Topsavings.org J&J, Sussex was sixth in his heat race and did not qualify for the dash. To date, the hard charger is eighth in points with five top-10 finishes on the season.
Yuma’s “The Magic Man” Mike Martin won the 8-lap Racers Advantage Store Heat Race #4. Driving his #16 Ultimate Offroad / Naquin Precision Earth Moving Maxim, Martin scored sixth in the dash and placed sixth in the main event. Currently third in the standings, the “Hall of Fame Classic” winner has one feature win, one fast time award, four heat race victories, seven top-10 finishes, and 24 feature laps led on the year.
