Speculation, of course (but that's the stuff promotion is made of): ...... Watsonville is "home town" territory for a driver from 25 miles east thereof. Is this Ryan's Big Chance for a first CRA win? ...... Watsonville's corners are fenceless, the track is only a quarter mile around, and it's made of real clay. Ryan was the Ocean Speedway Wingless Spec Sprint Rookie of the Year and Series Champion in 2008 at the age 15. And he is a Cotton Classic winner (last year) on another fenceless, little race track. ...... He's a "money driver." Bernal has 10 podium finishes with six wins in 16 sprint car mains this year (only two DNFs) and 12 wins in a lifetime of 46 races, 35 of which have wound up in top five finishes. Keith & Josh provide him with Grade A equipment. And Bernal has shown no problem whatsoever in coming right through the field from the back against Spencer, Faria, the VanderWeerds, Sheridan, Kaeding, et al. ...... Yes; I know. He'll have Damion (who's also familiar with Ocean), Sick Nick, Mikey in #50, Rickie, Ripper, Matt, Cody, Austin, et al to contend with (not sure if Cardey's coming; anyone know for sure?), but I suggest keeping your eyes on the black 73.

Ryan will be running with a disadvantage to the rest of the CRA field because he is racing for the Western Classic Series points. That means he has to run 1 7/8" restrictors in his engine against Damion, Mike, etc.. who don't. Defiantly a poor decision on USAC's part to run these classes together with different rules. I think we are all used to the fact that USAC is more concerned about car counts than good racing!

CALISTOGA, California Sept. 1, 2012 — Starting seventh, Hollister’s Ryan Bernal took the lead from Chad Boespflug on lap thirteen and led the rest of the way to claim the Saturday feature of the Louie Vermeil Classic. The $3,000 triumph at Calistoga Speedway was Bernal’s second Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series victory in a row as the young driver was followed by Boespflug, USAC/CRA point leader Mike Spencer, “Showtime” Danny Sheridan, and Brody Roa.

The races last year at Santa Maria (CRA, KWS winged, USAC 360) were all great, some of the best I have ever seen there. I would not expect a good/large turnout of cars at Santa Maria, because even PAS didn't for Salute to Indy, and Santa Maria's race is not a combined event and a bit of distance for underfinanced teams. In addition Ventura is running two classes of sprint car that night. Sucks, last week no sprint car races in the So Cal area, and this week two tracks within 100 miles of each other have sprint car races. I hope USAC officials and/or track promoter get creative in their race format, 2 (or maybe 3) heats and main is not enough. I have seen in the Non wing ASCS (old scra midwest tour) at Lake Side, KS for the Ron Shuman Classic have two set of heat races to help determine the main event positions (and they even had a decent car count). Wouldn't 4 or 6 meaningful heat races instead of just 2 or 3 meaningless heat races be better for the fans (and drivers)? My guess - two heat races and a main. Going to make it harder to drive by Ventura and head North, especially since Ventura got new dirt. Although OSS was the race of the year, the video I saw from Ventura looked pretty damn good too that weekend.

CRA =ran= at Victorville last year? Wasn't that just an "open" show? It's not listed on the 2012 schedule.

Wasn't able to check the 2012 CRA results anywhere because they're not posted anywhere. Thanks for the correction. Was there a race somewhere between August 18th and September 1st? Was a race at Victorville "inserted" into the schedule?
