Last Saturday at Hanford, =18= WC 360 boys ran an ASCS format with three 10-lap heats, two 12-lap reverse order qualifiers and a =very= exciting, 40-lap A Main. (We also got a bunch of wing "races." Or parades.) I have seen the CRA cars run the ASCS format up here as well. It's a terrific, crowd-pleasing way to get a lot of real interesting racing out of a small # of race cars... even if the promoter is eating it at the back gate. Faria's gonna run the same IMCA dirt mods and stockers Scott ran last week at Hanford along with the WC 360 and Rebel Cup 360 winged sprints. (I was out of my seat and in my car sending updates while the taxis were racing.) I have to drive an extra half hour to get to Tulare vs. Hanford on a day when IndyCars are battling for the pole (say what you will), and I'm wondering if it's really worth the effort to do that for three sprint car heats (four if you get enough "local 360s") and an A Main if you =don't= run an ASCS format. So... I'd love to hear you say you will.

When there are small fields (less than 30 cars) I'm more reluctant to travel to a distant race (over an hour in drive time). I remember when Perris routinely had 40 or even 50 cars, and I never missed race. I guess we were all spoiled with the car counts and racing. I hardly go to Perris anymore If I knew tracks would run the ASCS format when there is less than 4 full heat races, I would be more inclined (I mean I would) go. With 6 car inverted heats and mains, virtually meaningless heat races, I've kinda decided it not worth $100 of my pocket book or just as importantly 6-10 hours of time. When I heard CRA was going to Tulare, first thought was there was going to be a small field. BUT I DO APPLAUD THE EFFORTS OF USAC and Kearns to attract more cars. However with the Nascar All Star race, or opening night of the new track in Bakersfield, or more likely the USAC midgets at Ventura on the new racy track, Tulare (although one if not favorite tracks) is not a high priority. Next week choices are Perris (CRA) or KWS double header (fri and Sat) at tulare. One or both tracks may get my business.

"Battle at the Beach - VRA/USAC Midgets, Senior Sprints, Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Focus Midgets, Go-Karts." Lessee here. Probably 30 to 35 open wheelers on the new clay I haven't seen before. And 240 miles round trip along the (very) Beautiful Coast... or maybe 20 sprint cars and a bunch of sheet metal 280 miles round trip through exciting Kettleman City that Damion is just about a shoe-in to win because (to be perfectly honest) Mikey and Bruce are really at their best at Perris, and it's tough to think Danny will make it two in a row against all that financial throw-weight...... Let me think about this...... (I'm hangin' in there to see if Chris and owners'll go for an ASCS format... 'til about 2:15 on Saturday.) Wot say, mates?

25-30 Non-wing Sprint Cars, 4-5 IMCA Stocks, and No Mods at the Thunderbowl. Why go to Ventura?

Cars going . That I can think of . Car #s . 1x,2,3,4,4a,10,29,37,44,50,66,73,88,91, possibles Kruser, Carlile, Faria, Bender, Bezio, and maybe some of the 360 guys. Moose mobile will not be there. Any others anybody can think of?. Maybe a couple from AZ like Davis, Martin, Johnson. Pelkey. So I'm seeing 14 solids and I'm hoping for that many extras. Maybe even Logan in the 3x.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

You forgot 88. Maybe 16b to get long tow $$. 51a has been there before. 37x hasn't missed one, yet. You have to figure 17v, 51, 21t

Who's 51a , 37x and 21t ? My bad didn't forget the 88 had the 10 on there instead . The 10 is the 360 number.

Thinking Tarlton will be in Fernley for the two day KWS show. And knew one of the twins runs a diff number for the 360 series. Hope we see Rj and Martin. Rob I know you have sworn off this site . But are you going ? Think I might meet Greg and Kevin in San Dimas and all drive up from there. Or I could just drive 10 minutes and go to costa mesa speedway. For speedway motorcycles and side hacks. Also It's Harley Night .

When I go to Ventura I don't expect many cars anymore (at least in one class). God knows there are probably 10 classes racing. But it is short drive for me, parking is only $5, they don't care if you bring in outside food, tickets are $15, so it is more than half the cost of Perris ( I figure less than $50 for a Ventura night versus more than $100 for Perris), no horrible traffic on a Saturday Afternoon especially thru Pasadena, and normally I am sitting at home after the races from Ventura, before Perris is even thinking about starting the main, and I than I still have another hour and half to get home. I even get tired at home watching the PPV for the main event to start at Perris. With that all said, it comes down to the quality of racing, and for the most part, Perris has a great prepared track, great facility, and most times a good quality field with a great main. But for me, the cost and traffic outweigh all those factors especially with meaningless heat races. Ventura (until recently with the messed up dirt surface) ALWAYS PROVIDES AN ENTERTAINING SHOW. With this new dirt, I think I might be venturing out there more and the drive is pleasant although it is only 20 minutes. If Ventura gets 20 minutes I would be surprised, but I bet the racing could be great. Remember the old days when you could find better racing than the midgets at Ventura, hopefully those days are back. Next week, Tulare on Friday and Perris on Saturday with the Indy 500 on Sunday (tube). IS anyone racing Sunday night. Like Raj said, if CRA adopted a ASCS format (I saw one at the Ron SHuman Classic in Kansas one year) it by far is better for racers an fans. Instead of sitting in heat, using up the track for qualifying, the racing starts at 7, and you get to see twice the amount of action in heat races, and drivers win the main by racing in heat races, not by the qualifying (or some cases the draw in qualifying). Oh well, I will still go and see the 3 or 4 heat format with USAC, just not as oftern. I would think race car drivers would rather race than do single car qualifying.

JDFast: They did in fact run time trials at Hanford last week. And the track was wet enough =deep= enough to take it, three sprint heats, two more winged sprint heats, two mod heats, a vintage exhibition =and= a stocker heat before they ran the reverse-order, 12-lap qualifiers...... The track actually stayed quite nice into the evening and only ran a bit dusty for the wing (30-lap) and =then= non-wing (40-lap) mains. Tulare is a little more shaded than Hanford, so... ...... But what's really nice is that all the drivers get a lot of seat time, and the fans get a lot more sprint car racing...... If I don't hear anything "positive," I'll join you at Seaside.

Ref: AZ cars...... I have been to every 410 CRA show in Cen Cal in the last four years. I have never seen an AZ car here...... This is not a combo CRA & Western Classic show, so I don't expect to see any NorCal 410s (though they do not have a show scheduled tonight, but one or two cars is all we have ever seen this far south)...... Tarlton runs wings only. Kruseman is far more likely to be in a midget at Ventura (based on recent history) than in a sprint car in Tulare, but I'm not willing to put any money on him in a midget at Ventura, either. Neither Bender car was at Hanford last week with a 360 motor, though they'd been up here in 360s two or three times last year, and they are from way down in Ramona...... Based on recent history, I think these are the 410s that will be here tonight: Austin W., Ripper, Nick, Damion, Rich & Jace, Danny F., Bud, Matt Mitchell, Cody, Mikey, Rusty, Dennis Howell (a longshot, but he was here last week, and he has or can borrow a motor), Ryan B. & Brody. That's 15 cars, plus a smattering of maybe five 360s...... BTW: 85 degrees forecast high in Tulare; 67 in Ventura... with both dropping to 55 overnight...... I'm =not= trying to rain on Chris & Steve's parade up here. But a six-race ASCS show beats a four-race USAC show any day...... (Okay, I really will drop the rope now. Have a nice weekend.)

Didn't miss it . It was a great race . And finished at an early time 9:15. I was back in Orange Co by 12:15 . Like the 33 car from the Classic series, he should come race at the PAS.The smallest crowd I've ever seen in Tulare stands . And maybe 150 cars in the parking lot. See you at the PAS Saturday. P.S. it was still a long ass drive for only 17 cars.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.
