For most of us this question is like the old saying about real estate, location, location, location. If someone who attends the big shows at Knoxville or Williams Grove came to one of our best local shows they probably wouldn't be that impressed. On the other hand, some of us can't travel out of the local are much. Minnesota gas prices just hit $4.299 due to a couple refinery outages and switching to summer blend, that's their excuse but I think they just saw an area where the economy wasn't too bad and decided to drain us. Anyways, I've got two local tracks that are personal favorites. Cedar Lake Speedway, the Jerry Richert Sr. Memorial is my favorite race of the season. Running a close second is any race at the Saint Croix Valley Raceway, UMSS(w), IRA or even their weekly UMSS Traditional (non-wing limited engine) Sprint Cars. Though the car counts or status of the events might not equal a Knoxville we've got a good thing going up here and for those of us who have lobbied for more Sprint Car racing the future is very bright. wink

The best sprint car race ever (well the ones I have been to) are the Trophy Cups at the Tulare Thunderbowl in October! It is the best track in CA with the best drivers from all over and the best format! The fast guys start at the back and whoever the gains most positions and points wins! There is a winner of the actual races and the overall winner both nights and another plus a lot of the money goes to the Make a Wish Foundation which is a great organization that helps kids!

Sure someday I would love to go to Knoxville and Eldora and other famous tracks, but for now I am happy with the quality of sprint cars races we have right here in CA! The farthest track I have been to is Lernerville and I was very impressed with everything about it! Our friends live 30 minutes from it and never thought about going to a race. My aunt lives really close to I-30 Speedway so I would love to the 360 nationals one of these days Smile

Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

So what part of this made you happier? Lasoski winning or Sammy not winning? Just curious.

I guess the best way to answer that is that I was in "anyone but Sammy" mode from the drop of the green flag. I was in turns one and two so I only got to see the pass start and I pretty much lost it at that point but I used the crowd's reaction to figure out who was leading at the stripe. I thought "there can't be that many Sammy fans here" and Lasoski made it to turn one first. Then I completely lost it! It could have been anyone winning that race - it didn't matter. I was even more excited when I found out that Jac had passed him for second. A good friend of mine who is a big Sammy fan wasn't there that year said "I can't believe you didn't call me to rub it in" and my reply was "I was in too damned good of a mood to waste cell minutes to listen to your excuses". There wasn't anywhere else I wanted to be then right there that night and I would have given up every trip there before and after if I had to just so I could be there. Just an awesome night. Jac taking the front row challenge at Osky and pulling it off was another one that ranks right up there.

The Thunderbowl track is far from being the best any more. The last few yrs, the track has been viciously rough or more often lately, rubber down follow the leader. It is in need of some new clay and a make over before it gets back to one of the best tracks around. I hope they do something before this years TC, or it will be very disappointing to fans and drivers.

Lernerville is awesome, the best racetrack in PA IMO. Too bad it's not in central PA so they could have a better weekly field of 410's.

I still say the Knoxville Nationals when Lasoski got his first Nationals finale win and Sammy - again - did not get his second :-).

+1

Best. Race. I've. Ever. Seen. Period.

Seriously though, if I lived close enough to go to Knoxville regularly I would very seldom go to races anywhere else.

Everything about Knoxville is awesome. The track prep is great. The track regularly is 2 or 3 grooves. The car count and quality is excellent. The ticket price for the weekly show is a bargain for what you see. The entire facility is first class and clean. The show moves along at a good pace, very little screwing around.

And the best part is NO TAXI CABS to pad the back gate $'s.

Lots of other tracks have good facilities and potential for great racing but they lack in the other categories, for sure in the "No taxi cabs" category.

I went to the Trophy Cup last October and the track was really good although I heard it wasn't soo great for the WoO and KWS races! Hopefully they are able to re surface the track soon and get rid of that big hole!

my first time at eldora. it was a allstar show. but there was one big suprise. steve kinser showed up after his short nascar tyout. he was found to have nurf bars that were not allstar aproved. he started in the back to finish second to my favorite driver joey saldana. although joey escaped with the win, one more lap i believe steve would have won. i also saw dean jacobs go out of the park in turn one. back in the mid ninteys that was the best track around. jmo.

Saw a great nonwing show at Oskaloosa a few years ago. In a heat race Kevin Swindell was in fourth place coming off of 4 and won the race. Wow!! Then in the A, Jesse Hockett and Dave Darland drove the wheels off for the whole race and Hockett won. He parked it on the front straight and Darland parked his behind him, jumped out and ran up to him a gave him a big shake and a hug for a beautiful race. All for the fans.

I sure do miss jesse. What a shoe and great guy too. God speed

Best sprint car race ever? The 1984 Western World at Manzanita the one which Lealand McSpadden flip while he was about to lap the field driving the Bailey Bros. #01. Ron Shuman won in the Offixico #21 and Steve Kinser passed at least 15 cars in thirteen laps to finnish 3rd. All with no wings, that time period was just freaking terrifying! A week later Bubby Jones won the Pacfic Coast Nationals at Ascot with Steve Kinser finishing 2nd, Never went to the Nationals till they had wings on them, so I don't know how that was without wings. But the Western World sprint car championships of the seventies and early 80's were so intense, no point chasing, no wings, end of the year, where the WoO, USAC, NARC & CRA all come together to race. It was unbelievable & awesome.
