RPM SPEEDWAY: MAY 17 Falls to Weather; ADDED PURSE for MAY 24
Crandall
TX (5/16/13) by DarinShort.com. As with many parts of north Texas, RPM
Speedway was hit with a huge series of storms that dropped nearly three
inches of rain yesterday and overnight. The result is, the races for
this Friday, May 17th at RPM Speedway have been cancelled.
Mother
Nature apparently has seconded that decision, as at the time of
cancellation on Thursday, sprinkles began to fall once again (even
though the forecast for today was 82 and partly cloudy).
The good
news is, after inspection of the facility there is no visual storm
damage, but it has left several areas of the facility standing in water;
making it impossible to get the racing surface in order by tomorrow’s
event.
Next up on the schedule is a loaded race night on Friday,
May 24th (Memorial Day weekend) with O’Reilly Auto Parts Night,
featuring the RaceSaver Sprint Cars, USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks,
Limited Modifieds and Factory Stocks.
And Memorial Day weekend
is known for grilling, so to make sure race fans will see their favorite
‘hot dogs’, each division will be competing for added purse money –
without added entry fees to drivers:
-The RaceSaver Sprint Cars start money has been bumped up to $200; which reflects a total purse increase of $840.
-The USRA Modifieds are racing for $1,000 to win, while the Limited Modified feature pays $750/win.
-The
Factory Stock feature winner will take home $400; and the first Street
Stock driver to reach the checkers will receive $500 in their feature
race. Complete purse breakdown in each division is posted at the
homepage of the track website under the ‘5/24 event’ link.
It
will be the first time drivers will get a chance to race on the new
‘phase 2’ track reconfiguration project, which was completed Wednesday.
The track is roughly 7’ wider in the corners, with more banking added.
This is in addition to the ‘phase 1’ reconfiguration which was completed
prior to the 2013 race season.
Here are the highlights for this Friday, May 24:
PIT GATE OPENS at 5:30pm
GRANDSTANDS OPEN at 6pm
MANDATORY* WHEEL PACKING 7pm (ALL CARS, ALL CLASSES)
DRAW CUT OFF & HOT LAPS at 7:30pm SHARP
FIRST GREEN FLAG is at 8pm SHARP
REGULAR
GRANDSTANDTICKET PRICES ($12 for adults) and pit passes ($30 for all
ages) are in effect, with no driver entry fees in any division.
*Mandatory
Wheel Packing from 7-7:30 for all cars in all classes. If your car does
not wheel pack by 7:30 (at the time of the draw cutoff), you will start
your heat race at the tail of the field and there are no passing points
for those drivers. This applies to all drivers in all race divisions.
If
you were a non-qualifier for any of the race divisions on May 10th, you
will have one free pit pass waiting for you at the pit gate for May
24th (except Sprint Cars).

MAY 20th EVENT UPDATE for the O'REILLY AUTO PARTS NIGHT at RPM on MAY 24:
The
TWMA Winged Modifieds were scheduled to be a part of the May 17th
racing program at RPM Speedway. Due to the event being rained out, they
have been added to the May 24th event.
Now race fans will get to
see the Winged Modifieds, Winged Sprint Cars, Modifieds, Limited
Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Street Stocks - all this coming Friday
night on O'Reilly Auto Parts night at RPM Speedway!
Ticket prices for the grandstands will remain unchanged as a result of this schedule change.

Although
the track receive a lot of rain in yesterdays storms, it has not
affected Friday night's racing program. Everything is still as
scheduled.
Here are the Friday, May 24th specifics for each race division at RPM Speedway:
