I still wonder why we don't see the WoO on TV much at all. It'd be much better than half of the bullshit they show on SPEED. Like the TORC series. Are you serious? Who actually gives a shit about series like that?

I hear you. It would nice to see some dirt racing as opposed to people trying to guess how fast a car goes in a quarter mile for 4 solid hours followed by 2 or 3 different shows that just go over the previous Nascar race and the upcoming Nascar race. I understand that it has to do with the ole mighty dollar as always and I'm sure the outlaws would have to pay for the television or the network would have to convince companies to advertise during the Outlaw race, but I am sure that more people would view them than Pass time for a 4hour block.

I miss TNN I think they were a great contribution to the sport.
speed spends more time talking about racing if that is what to want to call napcar than actually broadcasting racing
TNN could sell swamp buggies and speed can't show us the WOO races
It's not if! It's when and how bad

TNN turned into Spike over two maybe even three years ago. The TV channel that carried the most WoO weekly coverage was the Outdoor Channel .. not sure what that channel devolved into....

Yea I think it is pretty shitty! Speed televised the torc series LIVE from Eldora last night.... no one gives two shits about that garbage. Speed can't even televise the Knoxville Nationals, Kings Royal or the Chili Bowl live are you kidding me. I turned it to the torc series last night for a second I think there might have been 10 people in the stands and that was the most boring shit to watch. I think eldora has gotten crappy with adding all of this stupid shit like torc, monster trucks, nascar trucks and tractor pulls! How about bringing back the Historical Big One....how about Lucas oil late models world of outlwws latemodels or more sprint car races other than this shit no one cares about. ELDORA = BOGUS

Basically because they get very low ratings, and that's because it just doesn't make for good TV. I barely enjoy it myself, and I'm a diehard sprint car fan. When you do watch sprint car racing for two hours you get 20 minutes of racing, then the rest is filled with commercials and driver interviews. Sorry, it's hard to fill two or three hours of TV with Lasoski winking at the camera and Kinser saying "uh" every other word. And of course, Sammy's always an entertaining interview. If you watch a NASCAR race that goes for three or four hours, most of that time is actually spent racing.
As far as the shows that some of the networks are showing, I don't really care for them either. They do get high ratings though, so they are appealing to someone.

I love sprint or any type of close racing.Problem as I see it is the time it takes for a live race.Would make great hour show but time trials, heats ,push starts all take time and real fans understand that is part of the show. What I dont understand is how NASCAR can have so much TVcoverage for practice, time trials and basically boring 450 mile races to get to the real race at the end.Monster trucks have great coverage weekly and SuperCross is also well covered. One of the problems with certain types of racing is the drivers forget the fans are the reason they have an opportunity to race.We need a few more entertainers like Tim Kaeding to liven it up and get people excited.Fans like good guys and bad guys ,not boring whiny guys.

The future of Sprint Car racing broadcasts is streaming PPV webcasts where ratings aren't as critical and sponsors come from the racing industry and can get involved for a fraction of the cost of regular TV. The PPV business model for racing was not possible just a few short years ago but lately it has really been coming into it's own.
Most of us are already forking out $100+ for our cable/satellite and I understand that PPV for streaming races isn't going to fit into everyone's budget but that's the direction this thing is going. It's kind of funny for those of us who remember waiting a week or two for NSSN to get results when read these threads. Between sites such as this one, drivers participating in social media and highlights on YouTube by the next morning us old dogs already feel like we're on racing information overload.

I know it isnt sprint car racing, but Im luck enough to have a local dirt track that has a tv station come broadcast the races every Saturday. The coverage is great and actually puts anything Ive seen on speed to shame. They show up with 2 vans, 4 cameras, broadcast in HD, and its my guess that the owner isnt breaking the bank for them to show up. There is no reason we cant see sprint car racing or any form of dirt track racing on tv weekly

Don't worry about sprint car racing on tv get out and support your local dirt track by buying a ticket. Last night we were rained out so I paid the $18 to watch Koxville live and saw a great show for a bargin price compared to the $100 I would have spent if I would have went to the races for gas, pit pass and food.

Sprints on a tape delay is best, because it can cut out the delays that make a live sprint race fairly boring to watch.
The best idea was the ESPN2 series which I think got decent ratings but apparently not good enough.
I think TV is important because it introduces new people to the sport or enhances the interest of someone who might turn into a once a year type of fan. Those casual fans are really important, because there aren't many of us who go more than a few times a year.

Hey racingfish, what tracks are you talking about and who covers them.
Stan is correct, the future is via the internet PPV of dirt racing events: xsan.tv, dirtvision, turn2media, USAC live, now racinboys, Perris Motor Speedway - THAT is where you need to devote your attention as that is the future and that future is now.
Can't afford it? If you are a die-hard dirt car fan drop your cable/satelite provider and do the PPV per race or even the yearly subscription deal. Some of the above even have on-demand where you can go back and watch the races again.
My guess is you won't see much live dirt racing on cable any longer. That fad has all but left us. You don't even see anything mentioned from the WoO, Lucas Oil late models or ASCS about upcoming races on cable anymore.
Technology has taken us to where "the capabilities are just not there for internet ppv" to where it is being done and quality will only get better as the technology advances.

Tape delay that same night would be perfect. Cut out the delays and track repairs and show an entire WoO event in 1.5 hours.

I think MAVTV is supposed to be picking up the Lucas Oil stuff that is/was on Speed when they go off the air. Problem is, not all the providers have MAVTV. We have directtv, and they don't offer it.

I agree with Stan, our best hope is that dirtvision continues to build their schedule & quality of the broadcasts. FWIW, I've been very happy with my season long subscription to dirtvision, I just hope they eventually can broadcast more races. & maybe be able to start doing HD some day.

The track Im talking about is 141 just south of Green Bay, Wi and its channel 32. Several years ago it was changed over to a 1/3 high bank dirt track and I tell you what this track is my favorite track in the state. The owner does everything he can to put a show on. But besides that, I do my best to actually make it to the track. There is nothing else that can replace actually being there. This year I drove all the way to Paducah for the outlaw show only to have it canceled as I drove up to the track.

I wish for more sprints on TV too,but there alot of people into offroad racing and kids are a huge part of it.The kids relate to it better than most racing hence monster trucks on TV everyday. The ratings dont know whos watching it.The TORC series is well followed in the upper midwest were that racing has gone on for a long time.Go to the newstands and it easy to find offroad mags that feature short course racing but hard to find any sprint stuff.I will say everyone I talked to that is a sprint fan didn't like the broadcast at Eldoro of TORC either they looked really slow. The non sprint people thought it was awesome. Both these forms of racing are niches of niches of motorsports so I'll take what we can get.If you think TORC is lame go to Crandon WI and stand in turn 1 at the start of pro 2 or 4 and you might change you mind.
