Been going to WoO races since its inception in 78, but not sure about the double file restarts. It seems its a fan-based thing, as to not string the single file restarts out, but gee whiz do they seem chaotic, especially last night at Eldora. Just looking for other opinions, maybe a clarification of the rule, etc.

Seems like people like them if their favorite driver uses them to their advantage or they hate them if their driver gets screwed over by them. I have always liked them and wanted them long before they were put into place in the of motorsports that they were. Every race starts with a double file start so I see no issue with every start/restart being double file. Sorry if that offends anyone but hey, I'm a fan and I like to see exciting racing. Not single file follow the leader
As far as the rule, the leader sets the pace and restarts the race. He can start anywhere from turn 3 to the white line in turn 4. He also chooses the line he wants to restart. If anyone accelerates before the leader which is determined by officials, then the caution comes out and they are moved back 2 spots.

I say 4 wide restarts, but that's just me.

Dang kids and their double file restarts! What's next, 3 point baskets in basketball and designated hitters in baseball? Why don't they just leave it alone? I say just reset all rules to 1978 that way all the die hard oldtimers don't have to think about any changes. We can also put minimum wage back to $2.78 and gas back to $.65/gallon. Change is scary and has to be bad. And, this bull crap for the fans? The paying customer? Why the hell are we doing things to encourage the fans to attend? I say single file restarts and a $500 motor claim should fix all of this fancy change talk.

It should be double file starts and restarts, and the fast cars should start in the back. Sprint car racing has become just like NASCAR. When you put the fastest guy on the poll, let the green flag fly and he is lapping cars on lap 2 there is something very wrong. Invert the field and run for the money!

That is no longer the case. There is now a restart line (instead of a restart zone). leader can't accellerate until he hits that line (which is actually and advantage for everyone behind them, they no longer dictate when the race restarts, the line does).
I personally HATE double file restarts for one main reason. Lapped traffic becomes a non-factor too often now. It takes nearly 7-8 laps for the leaders to catch the tail end of the field @ Knoxville when they start double file. Have a double file restart with 6 to go and once the first couple laps are complete, the race is over, whoever is in front wins. take that to a single file restart and they are racing in traffic the last 3-4 laps instead as it only takes 3-4 laps to catch the tail of the field.
Ask the drivers how they like them (they'll all say the same thing, they only like them when they improve their position, other than that all they do is tear up equipment).
Sprint car racing doesn't need "manufactured excitement" by having double file restarts. I personally think they should go back to restarting on the backstretch, no cone, once the green light blinks or the leader hits the gas, let them have at it (rewards drivers with good reaction times).

That is exactly what "The Trophy Cup" is all about. The high points guys start in back and get paid for how far forward they move. The pay out is based on points so the big winner doesn't have to finish first to collect the points money. In 2009, Tim Kaeding started 24th and won it!

I wanna see the Trophy Cup some day! I first got hooked on dirt track (mods) back in early 60s at Eastside Speedway in Waynesboro, Va. Total inversion based on pts. Nonetheless, Smokey Stover won something like 22 out of 24 features in 1962, fighting from the back EVERY race... a real thrill! Of course,the cars were way different from each other back then, don't know how well that would work today... which is what I'd like to witness at Trophy Cup

Grandpa Simpson.....l dont think anyone is disputing that change is bad, nor did i imply the rule is bad, or not good for racing. Since the mid-80's weve had single file in turn 4, single file with the leader starting at his discretion down the backstretch, weve had going in to 3....and now double file. Simply asking for others opinions....my personal opinion, which is why i said i wasnt sure about the procedure, is because it makes the leader at a more disadvantage this way more so than any other rule the WoO has had. Thats all.

double file, that's what witnessed yesterday morning from corning ca (I-5) to portland oregon which is just about 500 miles. after attending the dave bradway memorial in chico it was about a 9 hour jaunt and pretty relaxing but, single file, i would still be in ca. LOL
thus, double file for me. <( ;
Ascot was the greatest of all time..
West Capital wasn't half bad either..
Life is good...
