OCEAN SPRINTS ROAR BACK TO LIFE ON FRIDAY NIGHT
WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (May 1, 2013) -
After a three week layoff, the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo
will roar back to life on Friday night at John Prentice's Ocean Speedway
Watsonville for their fourth event of the 2013 season.
In a field littered
with rookies and young challengers, veteran Brad Furr of Stockton has
put together one of the strongest starts in series history. In three
events, Furr has scored the Ray Scheidt's Electric fast-time twice to go
with two feature wins and a second place finish. Furr will carry a
large target on his back Friday night in his family's red Price Rite
Restaurant Equipment #2 car.
The drivers looking
to knock off Furr off the top include 2012 Ocean Sprints champion Shane
Golobic of Fremont and Watsonville's Justin Sanders. Golobic drove the
#22 Keith Day Trucking entry to a runner-up finish in the last Ocean
Sprints event and will hope to overhaul Furr on this go around.
Golobic is fresh off of a second place run with the King of the West at
Placerville.
Sanders has had the
upper hand in all three events despite going winless, leading 70 of the
90 feature laps held so far driving Clayton Snow's #7.
Gilroy's Kurt Nelson
steered the Taco Bravo #72 to third in the last event ahead of San
Jose's Ryan Rusconi, and Salinas' Jason Chisum in the Eks Brand Goggles
#25z rounded out the top-five for a career best finish.
Morgan Hill's
Nicholas Ringo is having a strong start to his second season in the
Ocean Sprints along with former CASA and USAC pavement standout Nick
Rescino, Jr. of San Francisco. San Jose's Nick Foster, Jr. has the
Wayne Katen-owned #199 locked in a heated battle with Pleasanton's
Nathan Washam for the top rookie honors. San Jose's Nick Green,
Fresno's Koen Shaw, Salinas' Jeremy Chisum, and San Martin's "Cowboy"
Craig Smith have also appeared in all three events this year.
The Tarlton Racing
squad of Carson Macedo and Tommy Tarlton are expected to join the fray
this week, with Tarlton coming to Ocean after a third place run at
Placerville last week. Former Micro 600 champion Tomas Bray of
Hollister and Morgan Hill's Tim Decarlo, Jr. are also planning to
compete.
Friday's races for
the Ocean Sprints also includes BAD Dwarf Cars, American Stocks, IMCA
Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, and Wingless Sprints. Adult tickets are
just $17 with seniors 65+ $16 and kids ages 6-12 are $15. The family
pass for two adults and two children is value priced at just $55.
Qualifying will get underway at 6 p.m. with fan gates opening at 4:30
p.m.
