Great vid from Saturday!
If it weren't for transponders, I wonder how they would have called that race? No way you could have told with the naked eye. MAN that was close!

that was a great race. 2 very talented teams at the top of their game. I was a bit salty at the timing of the track maintenance at first, but it did make for a very fast, tacky surface for the A main. great weather too!....

Opinions may vary...

I know it's not the IRA, but here's an on-board video with me in the 3rd MSA heat race at Beaver Dam last Saturday.

agreed! who knows what will happen. but being a sprint car fan from WI, he's our guy, & I hope for him to be successful. just making the A with that field would be an achievement.

It can't be an easy place for an IRA guy to run, we don't have any tracks even remotely similar.

Balog will do just fine, great power under the hood, understands what the race car needs and most certainly knows how to read a race track. Just as important, you must have a set of balls to get around that joint. He will roll with the big boys by night 2. He might just surprise a lot of people.

I agree, he might surprise some people. He will be able to hold his own. As long as he doesnt make contact with people he should put on a good show. Wish him the best of luck representing the IRA!

I will also pass along my best wishes to the 17b team for this weekend, and for all of the rest of the national events that he runs this year. The sport of sprint car racing has been strong in Wisconsin for a long time, but we've never really had a guy that represented on a national level. Hopefully he can gain some valuable experience this weekend and bring the car home in one piece. And if he does well, consider it a bonus!
I do remember when Travis Whitney took a shot a running with the Outlaws for a while, he actually led a large portion of the A-main one night during the spring shows before jumping the cushion and letting S. Kinser get by him. I think that was his first time there too. Another time, we were down for The Historical Big One and Whitney finished in the top 10 with Mike Frost's car. With some luck, a good finish is surely possible for Balog.
BTW, cool vid from the 98 MSA team. Great win in their heat race Saturday!

Great video as always, Gunner!
After watching Balog several times a year for the past three or four years, I have moved from thinking he wins because he had stronger equipment than his competitors to believing he is the complete package. He runs well on a variety of tracks (although I think he is somewhat better on the shorter tracks). I was a little disappointed in his performance at the Knoxville Nationals last year, but can't recall exactly where he ended up in the standings. I think he has a legitimate shot at making the A at Eldora, but it may take a little luck. There will be some strong competition!
