Sprint Car Racer Todd (TC) Miller Needs Our Help

CHICO, CALIFORNIA (April 24, 2013) – Everyone knows that after the recent tragedies the Nor Cal racing family has endured we are a closer knitted family. That is why I feel comfortable reaching out to our extended racing family again. Our friend and sprint car racing driver Todd (TC) Miller was diagnosed with leukemia (Type AML) about three weeks ago. Miller is currently at Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek undergoing treatment. He has had eight days of chemo therapy (24/7) and has received numerous transfusions. Todd is feeling the ill effects of the chemo drug. The doctors informed Todd and his family that he will need a bone marrow transplant as part of his treatment. Todd’s sister was hoping she was a match but was not. The family is in search of a bone marrow match for Todd.

Unfortunately this is not the first time Todd has had to battle cancer. When he was 15, Miller battled Hodgkin’s/Lymphoma. He is a cancer survivor. Now at the age of 28, he and his family are dealing with it again for the second time in his young life. The family is asking the racing community to visit the National Marrow Donor Program at http://marrow.org/Home.aspx.

This is a site for people like Todd with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma or other diseases, because a cure does exist. Be The Match® connects patients with their donor match for a life-saving marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant. This site gives information about requesting as kit to be sent to your house and in the privacy of your own home you can swab your mouth, return the kit and see if you are a match.

In talking with Todd’s father over the phone, he expressed his love for sprint car racing and recounted many camping trips with his children to Chico for the races at Silver Dollar Speedway. Todd has been racing since he was nine years old. He started in the quarter-midgets and then continued to progress up the motorsports ladder. He has driven spec sprints, USAC/BCRA midgets and is currently racing winged and non-wing 360 sprint cars.

Todd's 2013 racing plans are put on hold but he is looking forward to getting back in his sprint car soon. It is a positive thing that he is looking into his future even while he lays in a hospital bed getting treatment. The Miller family sends out a big thank you to the entire racing community and is hopeful to find a bone marrow match for Todd.
