Hi guys, Newbie here to the forum. Please forgive the possible ignorance of my question. I am a fan of all motor sports from Formula One to midget racing. I really don't "follow" the ins and outs of sprint or midget racing but I will say I enjoy a night a Saturday night spent at a Sprint or midget race as much as anything in motorsports.

I was really glad to see Irwindale brought back from the dead and the long awaited opening of Kern county raceway. Looking at the schedules I see absolutely NOTHING on the schedules for midgets or sprints. What gives here? I know southern california has suffered from declining interest in the above mentioned series, but this is really dissapointing. I realize both tracks rely on NASCAR as its bread and butter. But what is going on? I won't drive across the street to see a Nascar late model race....but I will drive a 100 miles to see a good sprint car race. Thanks guys...

Just being a smart ass but if you can take out the pavement we can talk somebody into racing there.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

ANY sprint car race is worth driving a 100 miles, Irwindale would be a great track if it was dirt.....

How long ago was it that we had an asphalt sprint series in the west? Ten years? I recall seeing a young Bud Kaeding win there in the late '90s. And that the track was rather dangerous for sprint cars.

Irwindale IS an excellent track for sprints and midgets. Having seen every Turkey Night Midget Grand Prix ever held at Irwindale and the 3-wide racing for the first 30 laps and 2-wide for the rest of the race is truly remarkable. Plus, when they had 30 sprints for Turkey Night that was also very exciting.

I think that the regular fans at Irwindale have a problem relating to racing cars that don't look like the cars on the showroom floor. They relate to the battles between Chevy and Fords and dislike the Japanese interlopers like Toyota. They recognize that the midgets, sprint cars and especially supermodifieds are faster. But, they also view them like most of the people on this board view the World of Outlaws. Real race fans will step out of their boundaries and watch the other guys race occasionally. The problem is how do the promoters reach those people to make them take that step. So maybe one or two open wheel shows a season is all the promoter and fans are likely to do at Irwindale. The World of Outlaws would probably have more success if they only came every other year to Perris.

Lots of good points here. Have to wonder if I'dale will re-acquire the Turkey Night show in '14 after two years on dirt at a track 70 rather than 15 miles from its long-time fan base. Midgets can run five-wide at I'dale. Several supermod drivers I spoke with years ago all said the track was just =too= fast for them.

I don't know Harry, it seems some of my friends forgot about how bad the racing was in one year.

Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

If Turkey night ever leaves the PAS again which I hope it doesn't . Sure would be nice to see it at the Orange Show bullring.

no one has a pavement car anymore... There just are not any around. The pavement vs. dirt sprint cars are not interchangeable, and who want's to watch them on pavement anyway. Not me!

I might take an ear full on this one, but I actually like the midgets on a big fast pavement track. Sprinters no, but the midgets put on a good show. We always enjoyed the Copper at PIR, I was sad to see that go.

I doubt it would go to OSS unless I'dale was not available. Turkey Night is a reunion show for the Gilmore Roars Again crowd, many of whom are older and unwilling to travel to to Perris or OSS.
