FURR LEADS OCEAN SPRINTS BACK TO ACTION ON FRIDAY
WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (April 11,
2013) - Points leader Brad Furr will lead the Ocean Sprints back to
action for their third race of 2013 on Friday night at John Prentice's
Ocean Speedway Watsonville. After starting off the season with a pair
of Ray Scheidt's Electric fast-times, a win, and a second place
finish, Furr is off to a red hot start in his family's red Price Rite
Restaurant Equipment #2 car.
Auburn's Andy
Forsberg won last Friday's feature in a last minute effort in the PT
Shocks #7c, scoring a $3,000 haul after claiming a $1,500 Civil War
Sprints bounty. Forsberg is expected to return on Friday night as the
100-time Sprint Car winner looks for his third career Ocean win.
Also off to a strong
start to the 2013 season is 2012 Ocean Sprints champion Shane Golobic
of Fremont, who has been racing with the World of Outlaws all spring.
Golobic scored his first career Outlaws victory last Friday at Antioch
Speedway. The San Jose State engineering student returns to Ocean on
Friday aboard the 2011 championship Keith Day Trucking #22.
Watsonville's Justin
Sanders has arguably been the dominant car throughout the first two
features this season, leading 53 of the 60 laps contested so far but
without any wins to show for it. Sanders has been driving Clayton
Snow's potent #7 entry fielded out of Rancho Cordova.
San Jose's Nick
Green, son of the legendary Tim Green, is off to his career's best
start with fourth and third place finishes in the Konnected Clothing
Co. #14 ride. Fellow San Jose pilot Ryan Rusconi is quietly third in
the standings with fifth and seventh place finishes. Son of multi-time
Johnny Key winner Nick Rescino, Nick Rescino, Jr. is fourth after runs
of sixth and seventh. "Cowboy" Craig Smith of San Martin was third in
the series opener to rank fifth in the standings.
The balance of the
top-ten after two races is hard-charging Salinas' Jeremy Chisum,
three-time BCRA champion and Ocean Sprints rookie Nick Foster, Jr.,
Gilroy's Kurt Nelson, Salinas' Jason Chisum, and Pleasanton rookie
Nathan Washam.
Altoona, IA's Carson
McCarl, Morgan Hill's Nicholas Ringo, and Fresno's Koen Shaw have also
competed in both features held so far in 2013.
Friday's races for
the Ocean Sprints also includes Four Bangers, American Stocks, IMCA
Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, and Wingless Sprints. Adult tickets are
just $17 with seniors 65+ $16 and kids ages 6-12 are $15. The family
pass for two adults and two children is value priced at just $55.
Qualifying will get underway at 6 p.m. with fan gates opening at 4:30
p.m.
Ocean Sprints
regular Kurt Nelson along with Michael Dalton from the IMCA Modifieds
and Al Sotomayor from the Four Bangers will be available at the front
gate for autographs when the grandstand gates open.
