Up and Down Weekend for Nick Green San Jose, CA – April 9, 2013 – Building on the momentum and good results from the weekend before, Nick was back in action again at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville for Points Night #2 of the Taco Bravo Sprint Car Series last Friday and also King’s Speedway in Hanford for the Rebel Cup Sprint Car Season Opener on Saturday. Nick got off to another strong start Friday night by qualifying 3rd out of the 22 cars on hand. With the 4 car invert in the heat races Nick rolled off from the 4th position in the third heat of the night. A bobble in turn one by pole-sitter Carson McCarl would bunch the field up in turns one and two and ultimately end up with Nick spun around in the infield at a stop. After restarting, Nick was on a charge, quickly making his way through the field to come back and finish second from sixth in the short 8 lap heat. With a direct transfer to the main event, Nick would line-up 4th for the 30 lapper. A quick red on the first lap saw main event pole sitter Carter Train upside down in turns 3 and 4 resulting in a full restart. On the ensuing restart Nick slotted into 3rd behind Justin Sanders and DJ Netto, before Nick would spin on lap 3 while battling Netto for 3rd. Now restarting 20th on a tough and demanding Ocean Speedway surface, it was elbows up and hammer down as Nick carved his way through the field and found himself solidly back in the top 10 just after the halfway point. A few more reds and yellows helped keep the field bunched up and Nick’s aggressive style paid off as he eventually would come home in 3rd when the checkered flag fell. After the race, Nick had this to say about his run through the field, “It was redemption after lap two doing what I did down there in turn one. It was a good night and dad gave me a good car. I had to get up on the wheel because of the position I put myself in. We're off to a hot start. It's a big momentum sport and we'll just keep rolling onto the next one!" On to the next one is just what Nick and the team did as they headed down to King’s Speedway in Hanford, CA for Opening Night of the Rebel Cup Sprint Car Series. Once acclimating himself to the size and speed of the big 3/8-mile speedway, Nick was quickly comfortable and among the fastest cars in hot laps. A solid 6th place qualifying effort out of the 20 cars on hand would put Nick in the 5th starting position for heat 3. Nick was only able to come away with a 5th place finish in the heat as a tight handling race car and unpredictable traffic impeded his progress. Track conditions weren’t anything but ideal, but Nick and the team took to the track for the main event from the 12th starting spot. Any early red and some aggressive moves on restarts saw Nick as high as 7th around the half way point of the main. A long green-flag run for the last half of the race would cause Nick to eventually slip back to 11th when the checkered flag fell. Nick was clearly upset with the end result, “We were just way too tight from qualifying on tonight. We showed great speed early in the night and out qualified a lot of good cars so we definitely shouldn’t leave here hanging our heads by any means. We just didn’t keep up with the race track as well as we needed to. Everytime we came down here last year this place would blow dust in the heats and go slick to a cushion every night and tonight it stayed rough and heavy and we just missed it. I hate the saying ‘at least the cars in one piece’, but as fast as this place is and as rough as it was I’m happy to just roll it in the trailer tonight. We’ll work on some things this week and be back at it in Watsonville next Friday”. Next on tap for Nick and the All Weld Machine, Konnected Clothing, Moeller Bros. Body Shop #14 will be Night #3 of the Taco Bravo Series at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville on April 12th. “I’m looking forward to getting back to Watsonville and putting Hanford behind us. The season is young and there are plenty of nights of racing ahead of us. Just have to keep our heads up and keep doing what we’re doing and we’ll be in the circle before long. A big thank you has to go out to all of our sponsors and supporters. All Weld Machine, Moeller Bros. Body Shop, L&N Racing, Konnected Clothing Co., ART Speed Equipment, Benic Enterprise/Benic Shocks, Kaeding Performance, Weld Wheels, BMRS, and Chris Zootis Racing Engines.
