This past weekend saw the Ironwood Builders/Billy Alley #3
take to the track with the ASCS Midwest Region in a “double header” type event
at the I-80 Speedway located in Greenwood, NE.“It’s a track I’ve won a few races on and is very close to home.We just love racing in front of our friends
and sponsors”said Billy.Friday night would see the car draw the 9
pill, much improved from last week’s 71 pill.“The good draw saw us start on the outside of the front row in the heat
race, I just got a bad start.”The 3rd
place finish in the heat would put him starting in the 12th position
for the A feature.“We made some changes
to the car between the heat race to make it better and we watched the track
change all night, felt good going in to the feature.”After starting in 12th, Billy
would work his way up to 7th challenging for 6th when “something
wasn’t right in the motor and I just pulled it in to prevent further damage.”“The car was very fast in the feature and I
think we could have challenged for a top 5 finish.”It was not the way the Lincoln, NE driver
wanted to finish the night.
After Friday night’s motor troubles, getting to the track
Saturday wasn’t guaranteed.“With the
help of our engine builder and my great crew, we were able to get back out
there on Saturday.”Another good draw
saw the car starting on the pole for the 5th heat race.“We got a better start than we did Friday and
came home 2nd,” sending Billy to the B feature. The B feature saw the Ironwood Builders #3
once again start on the pole.“We fell
back to third on the start, I couldn’t get to the bottom in 1 & 2 and it
cost us a few positions,” Billy said.“After
the 2nd lap I was able to get to the bottom of 1 & 2 and then we
started make some good laps and picking off the cars in front of us.”Billy would go on to win the B feature which
would put him in the 15th starting spot for the A feature.“After the B feature, the car felt really
good and I was pumped to make a run up through the field in the A,
unfortunately on the warm up lap for the A feature I felt the same thing happen
to the motor as Friday night, so I just pulled it in.” Once again it was not
the way the Lincoln, NE driver wanted to finish the night. “We are going to take a couple weeks off, get
this motor fixed and hopefully get the new motor going so we have it in 6 weeks
or so. I can’t thank everyone enough that came out this weekend and supported
this race team, we’ve got a lot of good people behind us and we want to get a
win as bad as they do.”
