This past weekend saw the Ironwood Builders/Billy Alley #3 take part with the NCRA in Wichita, KS at the 81 Speedway. It's been a track that Billy has had some success in the past and felt like it was a good place to start the season and shake down the new Eagle Chassis down.
"With a stout field of 38 cars signed into the pits, 2 inches of rain the night before, we knew the draw was going to be important." "71 out of 75 pills was not how we wanted the night to start" Billy said. "We struggled in the first few sessions of hot laps, but quickly got the gremlins figured out, then it was time for the heat race."
With the poor draw and the heavy race track Billy took to the 1st heat starting in 10th and finishing in 7th place. That would put him starting 5th in the first "B" feature with the top 3 positions advancing to the "A" feature.
"We made a bunch of changes to the car after the heat race and it was good but not great." Billy would finish the "B" feature in the 4th position, 1 spot shy of the transfer. "We learned a lot about our team and we are eager to get back on the track this week a little closer to home."
