,,,,charge haulers to park? I know that sounds rediculous but out here in "La-La Land" anything is possible.

The $10 to park at Stockton was NOT as a result of a greedy promoter. I understand that was the fair board...they collected it and kept it.

It seems everyone is looking for a way to put more $$$ in their pockets...even if they have no vested interest in the cost of production!

"Sir, your hot dog and Pepsi will be $7.50 plus our $1.00 service fee for a total of $8.50!" Don't laugh...it could happen! Frown

Nothing new. It's been happening slowly but surely for quite a while now.

They're already out there. Several tracks "sell" the best pit stalls or spots prior to the season starting instead of first come first serve. Not too much difference if you asked me.

Charging for parking is not new, espically at Fair Grounds. I would say that charging at the Fair Grounds for parking would be the norm.

Charging for a race rig would be new. The first step in that journey would be to charge a driver to pull a rig out of the mud when thier rig gets stuck in the pits.

Most parking charges are not by the promoters either, the are by track owners/fairground boards. I strongly doubt a promoter would ever charge for a hauler to park. That is just to far fetched an idea.

I was always insulted when we would go to a "fair race" and they made all the race car haulers pay to get into the fair, h@ll, I thought we were the entertainment!!??

Its pretty much the standard with big go kart races. You pay to park and if you don't; you're out in the cow pasture.

There are a lot of tracks out west that you buy your parking spot for the year it reads resrved for. Other tracks you buy your number for the year. Every Fairgrounds I have been to in the last 10 years you pay for parking.

I've never been to a fairground track that I had to pay to park!

no one is forcing anyone to "buy" a reserved pit spot. if someone doesn't want to do that they can park in the unreserved area. if no one buys a reserved spot, and they run out of unreserved spots for the night do you think the promoter will make the teams park in the street?

people used to fight over pit spots. there are a lot of classless racers who just can't go along with letting someone have a spot that they have had for years. back in the day, we got our favorite spot every week, because not many had the balls to f--k with us. mostly because we were a bunch of crazy futher muckers who just didn't care if your rig had any windows in it. oh, and also because most racers knew who liked to pit where and we all let everyone have their spots.

most of the time

we all knew nick rescino liked to pit in a particular spot away from everyone. he didn't want anyone around him. so one night at the SJ fairgrounds we pulled in right next to him and unloaded. he didn't say a word he just loaded up his stuff and moved further away. so we loaded up and moved right next to him again. this went on a couple of times until we had him almost all the way down into turn 3 of the mile track, about a quarter mile from where he normally pitted. the last time he moved we went right back to his normal pit area and stayed there. we only did it once, just to mess with his head. he was winning too much. i think he won the championship that year. i guess we showed him!

now to solve the fighting over pit areas, they have reserved spots. if you want it bad enough put up the money. it is most likely the least expense you will have the entire year.

to indy and beyond!!

Perris (PAS) $8 Parking, $25 weekly CRA (410 Non wing) GA tickets, expensive concessions with no food, water (any drinks) past the front gate. (I must admit the cost to go to Perris has made me look elsewhere for my sprint car fix at other area tracks (Tulare, Santa Maria, Vicotrville, Orange Show, Oildale, etc shame PAS is one of the great facilities and race tracks for non-wing racing.

You might think about the 2 day CRA/USAC show at Cocopah this month. We all had a great time there last year and they treat you like there glad to see ya with no gouging Oh, and they've made some more improvements to both the track and the facilities. You can also stay at the casino/resort for a special rate and it's almost right accross the street, but they do a shuttle anyway. Nice site too..http://www.cocopahspeedway.com/

  • Friday, Apr 19 USAC CRA 410 Non Wing Sprint Cars
  • Saturday, Apr 20 USAC CRA 410 Non Wing Sprint Cars
  • Dry Camping is available at Cocopah Speedway – Free of charge.

It's still a cheaper night than a pro sporting event or concert and will likely remain below those levels on account of being a niche sport that the masses will never embrace.

This has been going on for years in one way or another. At Burlington when we raced there you had to pay $25.00 to register our car number. Alot of tracks charge for you pit stall so you can have the same one every week. Problem is that over about the last 5 years paid admissions in stands have fallen. So the back gate gets extra charges. We are lucky at knoxville has car gets 5 pit passes for $25.00 each, and you get your pit stall every week at no charge. Stall might vary some during special nites. Food is reasonable .

Like I said in last week I'd pay $10 to park off the streets of Stockton anyday. Antioch as been charging to park for years now and well worth it not to park on the streets in that town either.
