First year in a long time I will not attend this race. Since they threw the 360's out, I'm out

It will be odd not spending Saturday nights at eagle this summer..without the 360s it just won't be the same.

I think you are wrong..The biggest thing in sprintcar racing in the U.S. right now is 3 0 5 Racing..My bet is that the racing will be very good to watch and the fields of cars will get bigger month by month..3 6 0 racing has gotten way too expensive for most Working Guys..Look at Texas and Colarado..bigger fields of cars and great racing..and the prize money on offer at Eagle looks great..good luck guys ..I am sure you are heading in the right direction.

I sure hope that your prediction is wrong. If 305's are the wave of the future then promoters can pretty much pull out the trophies and racers can forget about recouping any of their losses to field the car. It will be like go-karting just far more expensive to own the vehicle. With engine prices already out of control in everything but the Racesavers, and now $20,000 racesavers starting to pop up we would all be better off racing shopping carts. 305's when they started are where the 360's were supposed to be. Now the 360's rival the 410's in engine cost and people are racing for fewer dollars. The 360's drove the purses down. Now the 305's are in the same boat. Skyrocketing engine prices and promoters lowering the payout. I hope 305's are not the answer, but I fear that they are going to be.

I find it ironic that we heap praise on the good old days and the legends of the sport from the 50's and 60's but would refuse to watch today's winged 305's turn faster laps than those legends did in their day. If I had seen the winged 305's as a ten year old back in 1961 alongside the cars of that era I'd have probably thought they were awesome. It's all a matter of perspective. wink

A 20,000 racesaver motor does not mean its the best. Shaver will probably sell a 410 to you for 100,000 if you want to pay that for it. The 305 cars can put on a great race. I believe I would rather watch 24 305s race than 10 360s race. We had a racesaver car that ran in the top 10 with ascs recently on a heavy track. There is not that much difference. Also as far as the 305 being the future. I sure hope so. What's the roush Yates ford cost. 42,000. And how long til you rebuild it? How much maintenance? Even if you buy a 305 for 20,000 it's good for a few years with little maintenance. Sounds a lot cheaper to me. You control cost with payout. Simple as that.

So $250 to start and $1000 is a reduced purse and bad for the sport? Am I missing something here?

I'm afraid that if 305's are gonna be the future one of two things is gonna happen: 1) I'm gonna be spending a lot of time at usac races; Or 2) I'm gonna spend a lot of time fishing. If you can't tell "that much difference" you need to have your eyes and ears checked. Nothing like seeing the over weight choked down 305's take to the track after the 410's and 360's.
305's are the herpes of sprint cars

+1 Eagle is a great track and I wish them the best. But there are only two shows Im intrested in there anymore. Luckily for me Eagle and Knoxville are within 2 miles difference from my door. Knoxville will see me a LOT more this summer than the previous 5-7 years.

That engine is geared toward the ascs 305 racesavers. No one who runs a local, regional series pays that for true racesaver engine. More like 10,000. But that engine does have some real nice parts on it. Shit ill take just the oil pan.

Wrong! You control cost by enforcing rules and hard tires, not by taking money out of the racers pocket. I hate when I hear that statement, that makes no sense to me. You have guys involved with unlimited pocket books, you could race for trophies and they're still going to spend $50,000 and they're still going to kill the competition. Heck, for that matter, they're still going to kill the competition with hard tires and enforced rules but at least the rest of the field is getting some sort of return on investment with decent payouts.

That statement irks me to no end..........I hear that all the time around here and it's usually guys who are running mid pack and back making that statement and then half way into the season they have to park their car because.....guess what....they're out of money. Hmmm, wonder why dumb a$$???????? Paying $250-$300 to go race and winning $100 back doesn't add up to well does it?

The solution to all of this......the old rock hard American Racer tire that IMCA used to require. You couldn't hook those things up to save your life, claimer motors would live, racing was cheap. Now you've got tires that durometer 45 on the RR and open LR tires on 305's, along with a big 5x5 wing. These cars are way too hooked up for these motors, you've got to unhook the cars to save money!!!!!!!! Not empty the racers pocket book!!!!!!!!

Correct CBGarage. Those of us that own 305's still incur some of the same expense to run them as the bigger engines. They still need oil changes, they still burn Methanol and they cost money to get to and from the track. Many of the expenses are the same, but when the payout starts to fall off it makes it harder for the racer to get to the track, let alone race the car competitively. I agree that hard tires that are checked frequently and tech tech tech could very well go a long way toward controlling cost. We used to race a Sportsman Midget with UMARA and they controlled costs by making the tires so damn hard that at a certain point all of your horsepower went backwards. No one could make anything more than about 230 horse usable, so it became a game of set up, which costs very little. They still have one of the most competitive classes of race cars around with pretty good car count for a club that started in 1992. It can be done, but people have to have the resolve to make an effort. I agree with you here.

To add to my previous post, I used to race Karts with a club in Norway IL that had a fellow at the starting grid that pushed a tire durometer into one of your tires just before you started a race, whether that was a heat or a main. If you did not make the durometer rule you pushed out of line and did not compete. MANY racers were sent back to the pits in the beginning. Not so many by years end. That would be pretty easy for the fellow that is doing the line ups at the push off area to do, shove a durometer into a LR or RR tire at every event. If you are not legal you go back to the trailer.

I grew up at Eagle Raceway. It`s one of the best tracks in america. I wish the 305 teams at Eagle the best of luck and I hope all of you have a fun and safe season. I am choosing to follow the new Nebraska 360 Sprint Car series. I believe it is important to keep 360 racing alive in the midwest. They will be running stand alone races as well as jointly with the ASCS Midwest, and the NCRA. The upside, there will be plenty of sprint car racing in Nebraska this season. I`m sure that there will be many fans that will choose to support both 360`s and 305`s. I`m wishing all the sprint car teams a successful and above all safe 2013 season.

Let the URSS engines run and you could pick up some more cars. Engine rules are the same except URSS runs steel head.

Makes sense to let in the URSS cars, they have a large feild that already runs in KS and puts on a hell of a show each night. If they only have 10 preregistered for an intended feild of 20 they should probably give it some consideration. Oh and by the way URSS isn't racing that night anyway.
