CHARLES DAVIS JR. SPRINTS TO CASA GRANDE VICTORY
by Lance Jennings

CASA GRANDE, AZ – MARCH 24, 2013... Taking the lead from Nick Aiuto on lap twenty-three, Buckeye's Charles Davis Jr. scored his first $1,500 USAC Southwest Sprint Car victory of 2013. It was not an easy win at Central Arizona Raceway for Davis, who charged from ninth to claim the checkered flags. The five-time Arizona Sprint Car Champion was followed by Aiuto, Brian Hosford, Josh Pelkey, and Bryan Swinehart.

Piloting the #50 Massey Motorsports' #50 RSS Industries / Rod End Supply RSS, Charles Davis Jr. ran fourth in his heat race and narrowly missed the dash. Starting ninth in the 30-lap feature, Davis sliced his way to the front to claim victory at the fast 3/8-mile facility. To date, the veteran driver holds a twenty point advantage with two heat race victories, one semi-main win, one hard charger award, five top-5 finishes, and 26 feature laps led.

Nick Aiuto of Camp Verde was looking for his first victory of 2013, but had to settle for second at Casa Grande. Racing the Aiuto & Allen #27N ABC Body Shop / Camp Verde Auto Parts DRC, the young driver powered to the lead on lap nineteen before falling to Davis. Earlier in the program, Auito won the Racers Advantage Store Heat Race #1 and placed second in the dash. Nick left Central Arizona Raceway ninth in points.

Gilbert's Brian Hosford claimed third at the checkered flags after leading the first eighteen laps. Driving Bernie Weber's #32B Coffin & Trout Fine Jewelers / Bondurant Driving School Maxim, Hosford was second in his heat race and won the 6-lap Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash. Brian is currently sixth in the point chase heading to Queen Creek on April 13th.

Josh Pelkey of Peoria raced to fourth after starting tenth in the 30-lap main event. Piloting Robbie & Gaye Allen's #12 ABC Body Shop / Napa Auto Parts DRC, the former Arizona State Champion scored fourth in his heat race. To date, Pelkey sits third in the championship points with four top-10 finishes to his credit.

Prescott Valley's Bryan Swinehart came home fifth at Central Arizona Raceway. Racing Tim and Shelly Beal's #68 Beal's Auto Body / DNS Performance RSS, Swinehart was second in his heat race and placed fourth in the dash. Bryan is currently seventh in the point chase with one heat race victory on the season.

Driving his #1A Pro Tech Coatings / KSE Custom Drywall Maxim, Tempe's Stevie Sussex earned the night's "Hard Charger / Best Passing Job" honors with a sixth place run from twenty-second. the young hard charger claimed eighth in his heat race and left Casa Grande seventeenth in the point standings.

Jody Wirth of Apache Junction won the Racers Advantage Store Heat Race #2 and was the program's high point driver. Piloting his #5X entry, Wirth placed sixth in the dash and scored twenty-second in the feature after an early exit. As this writing goes to press, Jody sits twenty-second in the point standings.

Phoenix's Shon Deskins claimed victory in the 8-lap Racers Advantage Store Heat Race #3. Racing his #20 Performance Plus / Ellis Race Cars entry, Deskins ran third in the dash and claimed seventeenth in the 30- lap main event. The veteran driver is twelfth in points heading to the next race at Arizona Speedway.

Still Ford powered?

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?
