Crazy wreck at Daytona, I think we're all pulling for open wheel drivers to live the dream racing in the the big time; but to see Kyle Larson walk away from that was truly amazing. Thoughts and prayers to all involved. He was driving one hell of a race until then...

They might have to look at how the front clip is mounted on those new cars. Amazing that Kyle Larson did not get injured.

You know harry,,,,, If the clip was any stronger,,,, the hole car could have gone thru the fence,,,,,Really can't say what would happen ,,,, All depends on the angle of the inpact to the fence,,,,,,,,ZZ

Looking at a few video's of the wreck I'm glad Kyle's car hit the fence where it did. It hit the area that opens up to let fans across the track post race. There were 3 poles in that area, the nose of Kyle's car hit one of them. If it had hit the fence between the support poles it probably would have been worse.
Time for nascar to do away with the restrictor plates for Tona and Dega. Raise the cars up so the bottom of the nose valance is 4" off the ground at speed, smaller engines maybe. As a spectator you can't tell the difference between 198 mph and 175 mph.

I am so insterested in the engineering outcomes of this incident, I think we'll see some type of inovation that we might not have thought of if this did not happen. Gotta give it up to the rednecks, NASCAR is tireless when it comes to scientific research and I respect that. That's what I do in my other life so yea, it will be interesting and hopefully some of the knowledge will filter down to local speedways and racing hobbyists.
Pulling for Josh Wise and JJ Yeley to finish all 500 miles today, but I think Jeff Gordon wins his 4th Daytona 500 this afternoon if the rain holds off.

Remember Richie Evens died at Martinsville in a modified chassie that was said to be too rigid, no crush zones so the full force of impact went to the drivers seat.

How about NASCAR downsizing the motors from 366 (6 litres) to 305 (5 Litres) for all races and do away with the restrictor plate. Their are very few vehicles being sold these days that have motors as big as what they are using.

That was exactly what I was trying to say,,,,,,, that a stronger chassis was not the answer,,,,, It is the sudden STOP is what injures the drivers or takes there life,,,,,,, Having a car brake away when it crashes ,,,, is best for the driver ,, most of the time,,,,this is what I was trying to relate to HARRYFAN about his comment about the front clip may have been to weak,,, LARSON was lucky that he hit the weakest part of the fence,,,,,,, ZZ
