...UNBELIEVABLE !...I just sat behind Aaron, the same woman in the story, and I think his brother A.J. at the Toledo Speedway...the kid still looks like he's sixteen years old...I would have never guessed in a million years the same kid would get busted with Heroin the very next day...

Very sad. His racing career may be over but his life is not over IF he can get clean and stay that way.

I will very likely be looking like that driving home from Ohio on Sunday.. (No heroin tho)

Just alcohol, no sleep and hopefully moderate heat...

Are we getting to the point where drug-testing of drivers, crw, officials should be looked at industry-wide?

Aaron and Casi have a long, uphill road to get their lives back before it's too late. They couldn't have found anything more destructive.

Why didn't he just drive without a seat belt -- almost the same result.

I realize that I'm older and not of the present generation; however, what are these guys thinking when they get into drugs?  Don't they realize that they have the world in the palm of their hand and that 99 and 44/100% of the guys out there would gladly trade jobs -- even at the Craftsman Truck Series level?

I guess one will never know what powers drugs can have on human beings...Unless you've done drugs I don't think you can truly judge... It must take over ones life...It doesnt matter if your rich or poor...Until you've fought an addictition I guess you wouldnt know either the effects or causes to make you keep coming back for more...It truly is sad whats going on in all walks of life...Doctors, Lawyers, Teachers, Bus Drivers, Racecar Drivers, The guy cooking your steak...From the richest man in the world to the poorest sole in the world...All are(or can be) doing drugs...

Good observation Travis. The same thing (addiction) that causes them to do drugs are the same things that keep people smoking. Even after they have lung disease or cancer. Even when they see a friend die from it. Even though they can hardly breath going up a flight of stairs. Even though they know they will die from it eventually. They keep on smoking. Imagine what it is like for someone on illegal drugs. Once addicted it runs your life. We can all stand on the sidelines and say "Well just don't start then" but the truth of the matter is it does not work that way. People who become addicted easily are the easiest prey for addicting drugs. And often those folks do not even know they have that trait. Then they go from yeah I'll try it to addicted (sometimes in a matter of days) and it is all downhill from there. Hopefully they will get caught and in rehab before they injure themselves or others where they can learn about their addictive traits and behavior and keep from becoming caught in that cycle again.

Paintboss - Makes no difference whether drugs or alcohol - high is high when your driving anything

John K - Industry wide testing may be the answer. However be carefull what you wish for. You know as well as I do that if they tested everyone, and I do mean everyone, there would not be much racing the first couple of years. And as others pointed out it is not just racing. Drugs are rampant in our society. Every social and economic background has a problem with it.

Radical reform on the punishment for distribution of narcotics is needed more than anything though. Yeah you can do a sting operation and catch a few bad guys. A couple of weeks later they are back on a different street corner. Until you disrupt the supply chain you will never control the use.

I tend to think that racers are more at risk for drug addiction than the average person. I'm pretty sure that the racing habit is an addiction for many of us. When we're young we want that rush, and I know for me going fast and passing cars is about as high as I get. When I'm not racing I get easily bored and that's when trouble sets in. I don't do drugs, but I have done some stupid stuff. If I'm busy racing, well lifes too interesting and I'm too busy to be stupid. These kids race once a week, and they don't have to work on the car or work a day job- leaves them plenty of time to get bored and look for a new rush. I am lucky, when I couldn't afford to race I was able get by with playing lacrosse, and hockey, rock climbing, water skiing and mountain biking, plus I was in college. It all kept me occupied, and I had friend who did the same things. But if I'd fallen in with a different crowd, who knows.
