I was laid off recently and find myself unemployed for the first time in my life! It doesn't take too much soul-searching to find myself wanting to work in this sport, some way, somehow! Of course, I've done a lot of part-time stuff with writing, announcing, broadcasting, websites, etc. and have enjoyed it all. Now I'd like to commit to it on a full-time basis.
Having been on this board since its inception, I know there may be Hosers out there who would appreciate someone who has the passion I do for the sport, and may know of something I can do for them on a full-time basis! You have all been kind to me concerning my work in the sport over the years!
Looking forward to some suggestions as I grow restless here in an Iowa winter! Thank goodness for the basketball teams I'm coaching! They keep me busy!

Really sorry to hear about your layoff. Even if you were thinking about a career change, it's never fun to have it forced upon you.
Hope you can keep up with your past involvement with PR, etc. We have really enjoyed your work.

Good things happen to good people. I am sure you will land on your feet. I hope whatever does happen it doesn't take you from doing what we have all enjoyed over the years, reading and listening to your coverage of sprint car racing. Best of luck to you!!!

I thought this was gonna be a press release for one of your regulars you write releases for.
Does this mean you are willing to move for a job??
Good Luck !

Unfortunately the real number is closer to 3%.
The unenployment numbers are taken from EVERYONE that does not have a job. Including the disabled, elderly, etc. So a real breakdown would be 3% unemployed, 3% lazy deadbeats, 2% elderly, disabled, etc. I can say this from personal experience. We own an automotive business and contracting company. People don't want to work, they would rather sit on their tails and collect the free handouts! Been looking for good help for 2 years now!
Good luck Bill, wish we were closer, I would put you to work!

Good luck Bill, something will turn up. People that really want to work (and you certainly don't come across as a deadbeat) will eventually find something. I've been there, but I'm working now. Worst thing is it might take awhile to find something that pays more than unemployment. I felt guilty passing on jobs that paid less, but you have to do what's best for you and your family. I absolutely hate the job I have now, but it's a job and it pays decent. Always searching for something better (hint, hint. Anyone in north central or west central Missouri looking for help? Lol,) but have never quit a job unless I had something better lined up.

Sister Ann writing for Bet n Housen, we have all been thru this in our lives Bill W. and I feel NSSN or Sprint Car and Midget could really use you for writing all the first person accounts and anecdotes you have from years of communicating with drivers and officials. I know you could do that, but if the publications would be willing to pay you a decent wage for doing so,I couldn't say,but even Mr. Bill in Lincoln could use you to highlight products in his catalogs, just my opinion, but so many racers and fans value your opinions very highly as always. Many thanks for all previous communications with the racing crowds lets hope you certainly find a decent high paying job you sure deserve it.

Hey Bill, a suggestion. You mentioned that you have previously been involved in writing, announcing, broadcasting, websites, ETC, have you considered PROMOTING. There are two very, very well known speedways, one is at your fingertips, that have decided to not hire a promoter but to run the show from 'in-house' personnel. If history is to be repeated, the two speedways will realize the mistake and hire a promoter/organizer/manager/leader to prevent a meltdown. The two places are the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Knoxville Raceway.

BillW--wishing only the best for you. I just saw something on the NSSN web site you might want to check out---HorsePowerJobs.com. It was recently started by the founders of RacingJunk.com. Best of luck to you!!!!

Unless you're an accomplished farmer or in industrial equipment sales, my .02 says move to a place more heavily populated and you know a lot of money is changing hands on a daily basis. Flip side is most of those extra people are assholes and that will wear a country boy thin...

Bill - Try putting ideas and suggestions on a power point along with media samples. Present the charts/ideas/media to those you would most want to work for, bringing initiative that you are interested in their business. Explain what you bring to the table and how you would manage and bring positive change.
You could be giving them the opportunity to say "yes". Benefiting both parties.

Have they found a replacement for Brian's position yet at Knoxville? This would be right up your alley Bill. If Knoxville was smart they might even create a position for you somewhere, talent like yours and that close by should be taken advantage of. All the best in your search and keep me posted....
