After talking about going for a long time, a group of us have finally decided that 2014 will be the year we get the Chili Bowl off the bucket list.
Any suggestions on hotels in the area and is a rental car necessary?
Thanks!

We stay at holiday in express on east 79th about 5 minutes from the track. Although there are tons of hotels around 79th so I recommend staying around there. If I were you I would book as soon as possible.

Another good spot for hotels is right off Memorial. I believe its by the corner of 22nd or 23rd and Memorial. Its right next to Town Pump (Dive bar that a ton of drivers go to at least one of the nights). There are about 10 hotels in that area as well as an Ihop and Village Inn for breakfast each morning. Enjoy the experience my friend! Its completely worth whatever time and money you spend there! If you stay at one of these hotels, I would recommend getting a rental car (I think you should get one either way to check out some of the other places in Tulsa).

ChiliBowl has Hotels listed on their site, that'll usually offer some discounts/perks...Tulsa Select has a Shuttle service that runs to the Track on the hr.,and to the airport!!...also a lite hot breakfast...we stayed a week for $198.-split 2 ways was dirt cheep!!...also has a bar with music...rental car choices are CarRentals .com,Hotwire,.
..I did a priceline bid late with a MiniVan from Budget Mon-Mon. for $311.00 total...that others wanted bout $550.- for!!......

There are lots of hotels. All full of race fans. you can get as low as 45 a night on the lower end to 100 plus for fancier places with lots in between. Just depends want you want out of a hotel
I just internet search and often dont book until a week or two before and always find a good deal. We been staying lately in broken arrow/highway 51 area. A little less city noise ,Some newer places. 15 minutes to the track .
Other than the one mentioned above I dont think many offer shuttles.
