Oh great... just what we needed. ):

Sprint Cup announcement set?

By DAVID POOLE - The Charlotte Observer

A new name for the Nextel Cup Series will likely be announced at a news conference Saturday at Daytona International Speedway.

The Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com reported in March that Sprint Nextel would likely change the name of NASCAR's top series to Sprint Cup.

Nextel signed a 10-year deal with NASCAR to be the title sponsor of the series in 2003. Since then, Sprint and Nextel have merged and the Nextel brand is not being used in Sprint's latest advertising campaign.

Anticipating further consolidation in the wirless industry, the deal between NASCAR and Nextel including provisions for one change in the series name during the course of the deal.

I always thought Sprint would have been the perfect corporate sponsor for major league sprint car racing. Their name would get mentioned, by design or by default, more often than any sponsor in the history of televised sports!

Didn't one of the McMahans have U.S. Sprint as a sponsor for awhile?

I know Dave Blaney had a U.S. Print on his car for a while. When it was the Blaney/Hylton 10 car. I belive Pylant may have had U.S. Print on his car locally for a while as well. If I'm tracking with you there John......
