I just talked with Terry Wednesday at the car show in Blooming Prairie,,,,, he was displaying his restored Chevelle,,, and we were reminising about racing at Morristown and some of the "strange" things that happened there,,, like the night that the entire row of bleachers dissapeared (with spectators) during the national anthem,,, the surreal scene during the fall classic there racers were pitted between the back straight and river, the campfires that everyone had going in their pits because of the cold was a very interesting sight.
I remember Tom Nesbit and Leon Plank being really fast there in the Late Models as well as Dave Noble,,, If I remember right Jerry Reichert Sr got around that place really quick in the sprinters...
I believe that you can still see the track from the satelite pictures on the terraserver website...

I used to go to Lansing on Friday nites and Morristown on Sat. nites, had a friend run at both tracks, the car had fenders though, drivers name was Paul Stennes Jr.aka "BOZO Stennes"I quit going to the races for about ten years after he died from injuries from a motorcycle accident,I guess theres a campground right across from the old track.boy what memories! Larry Behrends was very fast at Morristown, Frankie Frattalone and myself (Ron Olson) bought that
Nova after the race, it was a latemodel with a 481 LS-7 Chev
He won the heat, trophy dash and the feature that night

You sure on the race days Jim????? I was thinking that we used to run Fridays in Morristown, Saturdays in Lansing and Sundays at Kasson?? but don't remember for sure..
I remember the night that Mike Guttormson lost a borrowed a tranny from James Krejci, seems Mike neglected to tighten all the bolts and when he entered the first corner the tranny departed the car and promply got run over by about 3 cars,,,, It was hilarious watching Mike try to pay for the tanny after the race with frozen fish!!!
I guess you could also add another guy that turned out pretty good there in Mark Noble....

Cannon River ran on Friday nights in the '70s except for 1976, when they moved to Wednesday nights. I'll never forget seeing snow flurries in the air at the Fall Festival in '76 as Mert Williams bested Dave Bjorge in the late model feature. I remember local favorite, Rich Olson, scoring a big upset at the Minnesota-Iowa-Wisconsin Challenge in '77. Without a doubt, Leon Plank won more "specials" at Morristown than anyone else. Late Model track champs from 1973 through 1977 were: Dave Noble, Larry Behrens, Mert Williams, Jack Harder and Bob Saterdalen. During Mert's championship season of 1975, he was nearly unbeatable, winning 13 features that year. I have so many great memories of the Cannon River Speedway; it's a shame it had such a short history.
