On the Nance sprint cars with the small rear motor plate, was it the norm to stamp the rear motor plate with the number of the chassis? Also, was there a particular welder, and here I'm referring to chassis built in 1985 and 1986, who when identifying the chassis, wrote the month, NANCE, and the chassis number using individual drops of weld for each letter and number? ...................................................................................... Thank you.

It wasn't the norm to mark the motor plate with S/N. If I remember correctly we have done a few of the first ones that way, but wasn't really a reason as far as I remember. Adrian Rogers was our main welder, but right after Swindell left Adrian retired. We had another welder that worked along side of Adrian. His name was Bob (Can't remember his last name at this time). He was a great welder and would have been the guy during that time frame. Barry welded up our last frames we built out of the garage, but there weren't many. Bryon

First of all thank you very much for responding about Nance information. Being originally from western Pennsylvania we were fortunate enough to have seen our share of Nance cars. George Bischoff, Bob Ziegler, Al and Skip Deane, Ralph Spithaler, Bill Bailey, Mike Horner, Rich Preston , Kenny Jacobs in the Crash Nance, Rod George, Frank Chianelli , Brad Doty Bowers Coal car and others. That Nance information certainly needs shown more this year. So much potential.

The ones I was giving were just from western Pa. Donnie Kreitz was a Nance dealer from eastern Pa and then we had Fred Linder from Ohio who was regular at Sharon. Also remember going through all the classifieds from NSSN for several years and was amazed at the number of Nances in Michigan. I still have that list and still am amazed. Currently have two standard chassis, a midrail chassis and a 1991 downtube chassis. Know the origins of the 1986 and the 1991. Still need to ID the 1989 midrail and the PURPLE 1985. PURPLE frame and PURPLE body panels. One of these days.

here again 20 plus years of memory is real foggy, but i might be wrong, but hooker hood had his nance in purple probably a 1980's unit.
