Lakeland was a 5/8 mile paved track at that time. There were a handful of open wheeled races held there including a Silver Crown race shortly before it closed. It was a favorite of Nascar racers for practicing and was a mostly a late model special race deal it it's later years. The track itself is still in tact. Rocky's in his mid sixty's.
