This doesn't say anything about being "fired!" From the post over at MRN...

The board of directors of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation convened a special meeting Sunday, Oct. 28 and has announced that Randy Bernard will relinquish his position as CEO of INDYCAR effective immediately. Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation President and CEO Jeff Belskus was appointed as interim CEO of INDYCAR.

"We are very grateful for the tireless effort that Randy has invested into learning, understanding and working to grow the IndyCar Series over the last three racing seasons," Belskus said. "As both Randy and our organization have reflected on the past season and as we look toward the opportunities ahead and how to best take advantage of them, we agreed that the timing was right to pursue separate paths."

Bernard, who joined INDYCAR in March 2010, said he believed he is leaving INDYCAR in a better position than when he arrived.

"I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with the entire INDYCAR community, its teams, drivers, loyal partners and fans," Bernard said. "The last three years have produced some exciting, and some difficult, times. But we have created a foundation for INDYCAR that positions it to grow over the next several years, and I am proud of what everyone at INDYCAR has been able to accomplish since I came on board."

Bernard was also grateful for the support of the Hulman-George family during his tenure.

"I want to thank the Hulman-George family, especially Josie (George), for giving me the opportunity and privilege to work with the organization and to help set a course and direction for INDYCAR," Bernard said. "With the family's firm commitment to the betterment of the sport and the dedication of our teams, drivers, partners and fans, INDYCAR is better poised for success than it has been in many years."

sounds like the board voted him out.

looks like they removed him as CEO.

that pretty much equals being fired as CEO in my book.

just because it was reported in a politically correct context doesn't change the fact he was canned.

plus the first sentence pretty much sums it up:

"An emergency meeting by the members of the Hulman & Co. board was convened on Sunday to weigh the fate of IndyCar Series CEO Randy Bernard, who, at the end of the deliberation, was fired from the role."

to indy and beyond!!

Maybe just putting pieces in place for the sale of IndyCar to Tony George which has been buzzing a fair amount recently

CEO's never get "fired" it's always publicly reported as "stepping down" or "resigned" so they will be able to move to another entity to screw up without shareholder scrutiny

If the owners get their way this series will doomed a failure again. It will turn into CART 2.

Without a huge tv contract to help pay the bills the series will always be fighting an uphill battle. Get em back on the ovals & off of the street courses where they belong.

Also get some drivers that the fans recognize. USA pilots...

Tony George should not be allowed within 100 feet of the Indy Car offices! They're still recovering from the debacle he created in 1996. I love Indy Car racing grew up 50 miles from IMS, and went every chance I could get, and have gone to all of the Indy Car races at Iowa Speedway. George needs to stick to what he does best which is hands off!!!

I heard a rumor that he was totally against Indy Car paying the cost/sponsorship of bringing Damica back into the series after her ill-fated (to be kind) foray into stock car racing. Heard she wanted as part of the deal six dozen pair of Vicoria Secret panties(as she craps her pants more than once a race) and six black skimpy bikinis.

Funniest comglomaration of Obama blunders all in one video clip. Any wonder he won't release his grades. Trump the dump could have offered $100 million to the charity of his choice and he still wouldn't release them. Maybe $100 million pay to the order of B. Hussein Obama, that might do it. A big embarrassment for $100 million, not like he hasn't embarrassed the oval office hundreds of times already.

I nominate USAC's Kevin Miller. He definitely has the right level of arrogance for the job.

INDYCAR: CEO Randy Bernard Fired During Emergency Board Meeting

Still not sure what the emergency was for.For a series that can ill afford to lose fans. They sure do have a way of screwing people over.

This definitely isn't a good news. Indycar had some great things going for it this past season and were making improvements (such as bringing back the Triple Crown), not to mention the USAC Road to Indy scholarship. I hope the new person in charge keeps the USAC scholarship going because it is good for the sport of sprint car racing and Indycar racing.

Imagine seeing Kinser, Swindell, Stewart, Clausen, Larson, Haud, and every other bad-ass open wheel driver out there burning up American paved ovals in indy cars running injected big blocks, man I would go to great lengths to see that in person! oh well, in my perfect little world i guess.

Robin Miller's take (and a damn good one at that) on the situation. Truly unfortunate, IndyCar had an idea man who was independent and the big wigs couldn't take it.

hate him or love him he was a force in the reunification of indy car racing. I do not know if there is a path away from "cookie cutter" cars, NASCAR figured it out you put a decal FORD everyone should know it's a FORD, living in Centural Cali where so many beautiful roadsters were built I of course miss the days when builders, were mentioned at every call of the race. We will never see USA drivers fill the field unless something like AAA or USAC have the reins, and make them come from midget-sprint- big cars (big cars need to run WOO 410's with 40 gal cells, no clutch run smaller more economical venues). Very few sprint car fans have seen a big car!! Go Karts are neat but you do not have to speak english to drive one

not fired resigned as he cannot vote on a sale to himself

so why did he just up and resign with two years left on his contract, and with most critics and fans saying he was doing a good job?

face it, the board voted him OUT.

they fired him as CEO.

he sure didn't wake up and decide to leave.

also, what vote does he have? he is not a board member.

to indy and beyond!!

The equation is quite simple. The more money that is involved, the more f'd up things are.

The cheaper something is, the more people are involved, the cream ALWAYS rises to the top. It is simple arithmetic. 1% of athletes in other sports START OUT rich. See the pattern?

Also ask yourself why inbreeding begets the mentally challenged? God has a master plan. To save everyone else in the long run. It is simple evolution. No wonder alot of self righteous rich people don't believe in it.

Bull riding is at the least closer to auto racing than golf, tennis, Quaker Oats or Clabber Girl... http://www.insideindianabusiness.com/newsitem.asp?id=52604. Just like Robin Miller is closer to Indy Car racing than Hulman & Co.

I trust his judgement as I do that of Ernest Hemingway - "There are only three sports: bullfighting, auto racing and mountianeering; The rest are merely games"

They don't even know how to spell sprint car much less chromoly...http://www.ycmco.com
