I thought I heard Martin ran a 360 tonight. Great accomplishment for a local to beat the National & CRA USAC boys, but to do it with a 360, who needs a 410. Wonder if Martin got the bonus for best running 360 too.

Sure he did, why not? He won it from the outside of the first row, and lead every lap while being hounded by Balou for most of it. We've always said that a 360 could do it at Canyon if everything, driver, car, and the track lined up perfectly with the stars, LOL and they did tonight.
All my Cali friends who I was sitting by just mumbled to me as the left the stands. I think about all they said was they'd see me next weekend at the Ovals. It was, it was stunning.
Oh and the last, and maybe his first win with ASCS, not sure, was at Perris when the ASCA boys came over. So the question might just be, whats the bonus for the highest finishing 360 at the Ovals? BIG GRIN.
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

Doubt there was any nitro burning in that 360, but it was sure strong. That motor was a rocket off the corners all weekend. Takes a mighty bullet to pull that hard off of Turns 2 & 4 as much as Mike's car was on such a heavy surface. A mouse wispered into my ear in the pits afterwards that the motor has won the Knoxville 360 Nationals twice (with a wing obviously). This "mouse" (National driver that was on the podium last weekend) also informed me that he used the same motor and could attest to it's strength.
However, with that said...I want to explain that I am only saying all of this to back up my statement that I don't believe there was anything illegal going on. I know you guys were probably joking anyway, but I want to express my opinion that Mike Martin just plain drove a stellar race and deserved the win. "Magic Man" never made a single mistake Saturday and used discipline to keep the #16 planted in the moisture and not give up the preferred line.
It was really cool to see an Arizona regular win the HOF Classic and get his frist USAC National Sprint Car "W" in front of all his fans and family! I'm glad I could be there to witness it first-hand and to be a part of the celebration.
I was very happy to share the weekend with some amazing individuals. The list of Legends on hand was huge and includes the Grand Marshall Lealand "The Tempe Tornado" McSpadden, HOF host Steve Stroud, Billy Boat, Richard "The Gas Man" Griffin, Ron "The Flying Shoe" Shuman, Mark Passerelli, Jimmy Oskie, Bob & "Hoot" Gibson, Shane Carson, and many others. It was also great to share stories with "Cactus" Jack Yeley, Jack Rich, and several other owners and drivers that I don't normally get a chance to see. And finally, the trip was made special by hanging out with new and old friends & family that included Don Flanders, "Big Fish" Kenny, Greg Kaz, Dean Mills, Debby & Ron Hanna, June Gardner, Shermans (sorry about the bad chassis joke Jeremy), Spridge, and a bunch of others.
I want to thank Kevin Montgomery, Chris Kearns, and Steve Stroud for the opportunity and the hospitality. I will cherish some of the memories from last weekend forever. I also need to thank Lance Jennings for providing me with driver & team information and statistics.
One final note: If you haven't done so already, do yourselves a favor and stop by the Racer's Advantange Store in Phoenix, Arizona. Steve's museam and Hall of Fame displays are amazing. So much history. Cars, trophies, fire suits & helmets, posters, models, and tons of other items on display from Billy, Ron & Casey Shuman, Lealand, Griffin, Yeley, Hockett, Denise Bennet, Tony Stewart, and so many others on display. Gave me the chills.
