Statler back in the groove aboard the 00

By Gary Thomas

July 1, 2007... After working relentlessly over the last couple weeks to get the Double Zero machine back in competition, Los Gatos driver Jason Statler scored a pair of top 10 finishes at two very different tracks. The 2004 King of California debuted a beautiful silver paint scheme celebrating 25 years in business for his main sponsor DF Rios Construction. It was nice to be back in action and Jason is looking forward to having fun again.

Friday night at Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway saw the return of Jason in the 00 machine and he qualified a little off, but starting in the fifth row of the feature, "The Big Guy" charged forward to bring home a second place finish aboard the DF Rios Construction, YAK Vinyl Graphics, Kaeding Performance No. 00. It was a nice way to get back in the groove and came during Jason’s first night of the season behind the wheel of a 360 ci. powered sprinter.

On Saturday Jason and the team headed for the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway to compete with the Golden State Challenge Series. Jason began the night by qualifying 15th fastest. He then started from the front row in the third heat race, jumped out to the lead and he never looked back to score the win in the Pheasant Run Shopping Center, Stephanie’s Custom Interiors, Bell Helmets, Rod End Supply 00.

The 30 lap main event saw Jason start way back in the 15th position. As he usually does however, Jason marched forward and after 30 laps he brought home a seventh place finish to cap off his first weekend back in the 00. "The track was tough, but I made a couple mistakes during the race that might have cost us a better finish," Jason commented after the main event. "We all are looking forward to the next race though and hope to do well in Chico on the 4th."

Scoring a pair of solid finishes was a good way to start off the return of the 00 and with a little luck it won't be long until "The Big Guy" is back in victory lane.

Jason and the DF Rios Construction team will be back in action on Wednesday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. The special 4th of July show will be the start of a busy week for the team. Two days after the 4th of July event Jason will be back to Chico for another point race on Friday night, before heading to Antioch on Saturday for a night of GSC competition.
