For drivers who race for a percentage, what is the standard amount. 40% or 30%?

In a sprintcar, the most dangerous form of racing there is,I feel with a win the driver should get 90% and for second on back at least 80%,and there are a few that may get even more than that, the winners share plus all expenses, its just how bad you want the best driver, its foolish to spend all that money on a bullet proof car and then spend peanuts on a has been driver or some hot headed rookie who is just a flyer and a wrecker, never a winner, you get what you pay for in this business and if you can afford to be first class from the hauler, thru the car, shop, crew, then spend the money and get the best bang for the buck you can get. If you want a lower finish just get the neighbor kid ...if you want a winner get the best available in all aspects. Now watch 'em line up.

Depends...some get paid extremely well. Some get paid ok. Some are just lucky to have a ride and do it for free. Some pay the owner just to drive a car, which is getting more and more and sadder and sadder!
do it in the dirt

There are alot of car owners that have to race with what the car makes and it doesnt matter who is driving and if your winning every night, 80% is a little steap, the car owner would be bankrupt a month into the year, 30% no matter what and 50% of a win

How many owner's are left....by that I mean owner's who actually hire a non family member? Owner's where you get hired on your talent, not what you can bring to the table. I am guessing they are few and far between.

Mark Dobmier - 0% (he and Lunstra put every dime back into the team)
IMO, local drivers should feel lucky if they get 10-15% (even for a win), while travelers (ALL-Stars / WoO / PA Posse) that race for a living should probably be seeing between 20% (11th place or worse) and 50% (winning races that pay $10,000 to win or more).
Car owners can't afford any more than that (they are more than likely spending more $$ than what is coming in for any finish outside the top 5 of a WoO race (and ARE spending more $$ than what is coming in for Local Races that pay less than $2500 to win).
Ask some teams sometime what it costs them to race (even locally) per night. I think many of you would be AMAZED at what it's costing these days (I've heard teams @ Knoxville say it costs them $2000 to pull in the gate (by the time they figure fuel costs for the hauler, pit passes, fuel and tires for the car, and the night on their motor before re-fresh). Even WINNING the race isn't putting much $$$ in the bank (especially if you give 1/2 of the winnings to the driver).

Average of 30 bucks a lap, thats strictly the race car, no fuel for rig or pitpasses and thats an average based on not wrecking a single part on the car or hurting the engine on a 20 race schedule, basically $900 a night just to maintain
