I see American racer tires only made 8 laps at Knoxville before it had major blisters on the outer edge.
What will the outlaws do if they chose American Racer, have pitstops every 12 laps on a halfmile?
I like the reasoning of the King of the West Series going with Hoosier next year. All the tracks in California already use Hoosier, and will draw more cars because lower budget teams won't have to buy a set of tires to race.

Detune the engine, don't hold right foot down as much...
Not sayin they should go with AR but the 18in sticky hoosiers of the past clearly are NoT the answer! I believe the Ascs tire tested just fine on the 410 at knoxvile.

Having to manage tire wear in a 30 lap race is ridiculous. It's not an endurance test, it's a SPRINT car race where you should have to go as hard as you can the whole race to win. They need to mandate something hard enough that it will last an entire race no matter track conditions. That goes for both sides.

Open tire rule IS the only way, but tire management is part of driving, IMO

Hoosier signs a 5 year deal with Knoxville to be the tire supplier.

While I don't particularly care for one tire manufacturer over another, I didn't really care which one it was.
What I REALY LIKE about the Knoxville deal is that ALL of the divisions are on the same tire, that means that the low buck 410, 360 and 305 teams can buy USED TIRES from other teams (and the teams with bigger tire budgets can sell their used tires to other teams).
That is really, to me, the best part of any tire deal. In order to GROW sprint car racing, used parts have to be available for the lower divisions (before the 410's and 360's were on completely different brands, so there were very limited to none used tires available for the little guys).

I'm sure it'll be announced but do you know which tire it's going to be?

All Knoxville divisions and the King of the West sprintcar Series went with Hoosier. This will benefit all the cars in these areas and both series. We can only hope the WRG will make the logical choice and go with what the majority of the country is now running.

Right now we can buy American Racer's for $170. They already stated in the press release earlier this year that the price will be $220 next year for the same tires.

IRA tested tires at Dodge County after the races last week and had the same blistering on the AR tire after 8 laps or so plus it was pretty much wore out on the edges. The AR LR tire is a new compound they were testing out. They also tested the 18" and 16" (ASCS) RR for Hoosier. Hoosier tires held up with no issues. The feedback I heard from the drivers was they preferred the 16" tire.
What they have told the IRA guys is the tire prices are both in the $190's. Hoosier is offering up a 5 year contract and AR is only 3 years. AR has offered a larger signing bonus but Hoosier has a better long term incentive to the series. IRA is suppose to make its decision this week.

Knoxville, IA — (October 3, 2012) – Knoxville Raceway has signed an agreement with Hoosier Tires to be the official tire supplier for all Knoxville Raceway events including the Knoxville Nationals, 360 Knoxville Nationals and the Knoxville Championship Cup Series. All three sprint car classes, 410, 360, and 305 will run Hoosiers on all four corners.
“After very careful consideration and testing, we selected Hoosier .” Stated John McCoy, Knoxville’s Race Director. “We have tried to strike a balance between what is best for the racer, the track and the fans. We feel Hoosier’s commitment to the sport and to good competitive racing is the best for everyone involved.”
Knoxville Raceway joins the IRA, Attica Raceway Park (Ohio), Fremont Speedway (Ohio) and many other tracks across the country who will all be running the Hoosier brand in 2013.
“Knoxville’s Hoosier Tire agreement is a 5 year commitment that will help provide fast, competitive and exciting racing every night. We are very happy to be working with a premier company like Hoosier whose commitment to racers and the race tracks has been unsurpassed over the years.” Said Knoxville’s Marketing Director Brian Stickel.

Open tire rules work for KKR and TSR and a handful of others. With an open tire rule Hoosier or who ever will keep building more grip into their tires witch takes more HP and the cost of the tire will grow also... I agree sounds good in theory but dollar and cents wise it's probably not.
Agree it's sprit car racing and it should be able to go hard all race. But at same time track conditions change so much week to week track to track. Have to be able to manage the tire.

Hoosier on all 4 corners??? Horrible idea for the racers. I was saving $30 PER TIRE on the LR and $50 PER TIRE on the fronts by using American Racers. So much for making it easier on the car owners....
If the 305 class has to follow these rules that only cost us more money, I think we should at least get a decent purse or a points fund....

All this hog wash about the Hoosiers and AR and building stronger tires during the season and, this and that, and I am just waiting for the person to come on here and say ,wow,we might have been better off with the Goodyears, wonder how long we will wait for that statement, not long,I'm sure.Especially considering point monies, which remains to be scene. Now its kinda dumb to pay 30 to 50 dollars extra for a tire, in order to put the money in the point fund ,to heck with the point fund, and just give the guys a cheaper tire deal they'll be there until their funds run out and some might just make the whole season. Its going to be interesting huh?
